This one sounds interesting! We so often read books about Greek, Roman, and Norse mythology. It would be great to learn mythology from other cultures. Added!

I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did - Janice, Cherie and Rusalka. While The Palace of Illusions is based on the Mahabharata, there's a series on the other Indian epic - the Ramayana -- https://www.goodreads.com/series/50114. Yes, I'm still trying to kill series. I'm reading two books right now. Trying not to add more series to kill, but not much luck. I have a 1st Louise Penny book coming up on my challenge for the Canada task. I bought the fist five books several years ago.

I was hoping to enjoy it more. 2 stars for me is it was okay. I was into it for about the first 50 or so pages. For some reason, I was expecting more of a storyline as part of the diary. It didn't help that there weren't any chapters and chapter titles - just one long year of 365 days. I did learn more about The Netherlands though :-)
Haha funny, I remember I was not sure about the book for the first 50 pages and thought about abandoning it, and then it really picked up for me and I loved it.

I enjoyed her book, The Mask Carver's Son, well, most of it. There were a few slow spots, but the information about the Japanese masks and the art of carving and the theater was very interesting to me.

I looked back at my list and all four I've read got 4 stars, which for me means a really good read. I must check out The Mask Carver's Son.

The one I read years ago was a 2-star read - now in wondering about it - tempted to re-read it to find out why, but then again I've got way too many TBR books so probably won't :-)
I know what you mean about giving something 5 stars and then a year or so later, you wonder about it. By then, a reread seems impossible to fit in because there are so many others waiting for your time.
