If we all think we can manage 2 a month how about having tentative start dates of 8th for the first book and say 20th for the second? But I think we should have the understanding that those dates aren't fixed in stone: if someone needs to start one book late or early, that's fine. Just so long as we all remember to use the spoiler tag where necessary (like a lot of people I tend to jump on threads when I receive a new message notification anyway).

I still think that one book every 6 weeks is a better idea, but if the group would prefer 2 a month, then yeah, maybe we can have the exact days not set until 2 weeks before the week of the 6th and the 20th to see if there's gonna be any scheduling conflictes with 2 or more people.
I was suggesting a trilogy every six weeks so that we could just have one big thread with everyone reading each book at their own pace over the time. We could do a trilogy every 8 weeks if folks think that's more realistic? I just don't want to have separate threads for every single book, because then we end up with 30+ threads. Keeping it to each trilogy should help keep things organised and make sure there's always an active thread with people reading the set books at their own pace.
I could do one trilogy in six weeks, but if it's easier for people to do a trilogy every two months, then that would also work. the one thread per trilogy idea also works. We could always preface our comments with the title of the book we're commenting on. So we could have the first trilogy with a schedule time of 1st January - 28th February, maybe and people could fit the books in around their other reads. Does that sound good?
Yeah I think that would be good, they're not long books and some people may read them quicker than others but wow there is a lot of prep for this book.
It’s also important to not burn yourself out on a series so I think (as an outsider) that a trilogy every 2 months is best
Why don't you guys do the first trilogy Dec/Jan and then decide how you want to go from there? Then you'll be committed to the first trilogy and have some idea of what pace your group can read the trilogy. After that point, you can shorten it to 6 weeks, if you feel the pace is okay to do so? Just an idea.
What Angela said! :DI am not very worried about the threads either. They can be archived once we're not using them anymore and it will be a lot easier to just go on say "Homeland" thread and chat about that book then go on "Dark Elf Trilogy" thread and post say "Homeland Chapter X". Besides, we should first ask the mods if there is any way of making threads within threads. If we have 3 separate threads: Homeland, Exile and Sojourn within the "Dark Elf Trilogy" thread it should be pretty easy to follow.
We can either set a fixed date for each book or set a time period for a trilogy. It's all the same for me. But with the second option it's more like a monthly read and people won't be reading the books at the same time.
If we set fixed dates the 6th and 19th would be great for me. We already have previously scheduled BRs for 8th and 21st.
Ok, I'm begging all of you right now, let's not have this separated in groups of trilogies. I'll massive overclock my attention span and ability to focus and I'll end up dropping this project. And seriously, there's no way I could train my brain to just simply have a goal of finishing several books in 2 months. Plus the time when all of us can actually participate in the conversation would be all over the fucking place.
This is how I usually read. I'll spend about half a week on every book I read, finishing it in around 2-4 days. I go through a book, and when I finish it, I feel like I've accomplished a big task, and then I move onto another series, coming back to the next book later, usually a month or a few months later.
I'm already stretching myself with the idea of reading a 2 a month here, but the difference is it's manageable with my ocd because I'm starting each book around a specific date. I need structure here, or I'm not gonna be able to participate in this.
Also, I don't know if this holds any wieght, but I was the one to originally propose that we start reading a lot of FR titles. It made me really happy to find out that so many people were interested. Now I'm SUPER stressed that I won't be able to participate in this.
If it was my suggestion regarding threads that stressed you Morte, please keep in mind that it was just that: a mere suggestion made because I am a bit of an organisational freak. I honestly don't care how many threads we have or where we talk about the book. Ultimately, the only thing that matters is for everyone to have fun and enjoy reading and discussing a good book in a group read.
I'm gonna respectfully bow out of this discussion now and will join you guys later starting with the BR for the first book. I've really been wanting to read this series for ages.
@Morte there are enough people wanting to participate that you could split off into smaller groups that suit each other’s purposes better as your series read progresses. I know the number of cooks in the kitchen is high but please don’t get stressed out, this isn’t supposed to be stressful at all.
What I do think would be helpful is if it starts out small, plan out 1 or 2 of the trilogies to see how it goes. We do know that people are willing to start sometime in January, so I’m hoping someone will just kinda take charge and give me a date

OK, so why don't we go with Laura's suggestion of having reading dates of 6th and 19th, starting January? It doesn't matter if someone's a bit early or late. Does that suit everyone?
Just to point out the logic for having a thread per trilogy: I feel far more pressure if there's a new book to read and thread every two weeks, whereas with one thread per trilogy it feels like it's a bit more relaxed. But that's just my opinion - I'm cool to go with the group if a thread per book is preferred! I think we have a good start date with January, so let's call it the 6th to start? Here's a schedule that I think will work, with every book starting 18 days apart, which averages nearly a trilogy every two months:
Homeland - Jan 6th
Exile - Jan 24th
Sojourn - Feb 12th
The Crystal Shard - Mar 2nd
Streams of Silver - Mar 20th
The Halfling's Gem - Apr 7th
The Legacy - Apr 25th
Starless Night - May 13th
Siege of Darkness - May 31st
Passage to Dawn - June 18th
The Silent Blade - July 6th
The Spine of the World - July 24th
Sea of Swords - Aug 11th
Servant of the Shard - Aug 29th
Promise of the Witch King - Sept 16th
Road of the Patriarch - Oct 4th
The Thousand Orcs - Oct 22nd
The Lone Drow - Nov 9th
The Two Swords - Nov 27th
The Orc King - Dec 15th
The Pirate King - Jan 2nd 2019
The Ghost King - Jan 20th 2019
Gauntlgrym - Feb 7th 2019
Neverwinter - Feb 25th 2019
Charon's Claw - Mar 15th 2019
The Last Threshold - Apr 2nd 2019
The Companions - Apr 20th 2019
Night of the Hunter - May 8th 2019
Rise of the King - May 26th 2019

That's one way to defuse the tension in here! ;)
Now to write some fan-fiction I never thought I'd have to write....
LOL Scott, I always thought that too actually
And thanks Sean for writing up a schedule. I think everyone has been very kind and accommodating, considering the logistics that cannot be easy

There used to be a site call Snoop-ify your website of something like that. You put in an address and it's changes the content to how Snoop would write. It was hysterical doing corporate sites with it.

Someone resurrected http://gizoogle.net/ and apparently it has a Website Tranzizzler... I assume that works...
That's pretty funny. Thanks for the link. This page snoopafied.

As soon as people start throwing numbers around the comments get flooded with mutha-fuckins when snoopafied...
I'm sorry, Bill, I think I may have to call you 'Bizzle' from now on!That book title list: 'Da Pimp Mackdaddy'! I'm crying...
Just spotted that 'cold-ass lil comment' line. I wish I'd known about that site when I had my last job!
I think I want to read Rise of the Mackdaddy in May 2019... or Siege of Darknizz May 2018... Da Spine of tha Ghetto July 2018...
Haha... all the mod Teams became Crews... it's the little things...
@Bill... the key to a name change is having the right sequence of vowels and consonants I think...

So we can all say "How's you drizzle ma Bizzle."

Sorry about that freak out. Dealing with a lot of mental health issues.
Enjoy Morte, I'm starting that this week. A little behind the group read, but it's been on my TBR for ages.
