Yup! That's how I usually roll! :D I do understand the feeling of "wanting to read and start everything" though!

I love discussing books I'm really into (or really hating on). This is why I love the Kate Daniels binge right now. I get to binge and discuss :-)

Challenge: Yes (Cover)
3 books left to finish the series!
Same as Diana, I was more of a binge-reader before joining this group but I'm mostly doing BRs now. That being said, I'm finding the one book a month schedules a bit frustrating when I'm really into a series.I was thinking of organizing binge-buddy-reads in 2019 (like the Kate Daniels), something like a trilogy in one month. I know Karishma was interested in that :)

Not as good as Kings of the Wyld IMO but still a great read!

Ah that's too bad! I thought it was as good, less fun but more epic! great job empress!

Writing it now! I'm taking a week break from Malazna before starting Return of the Crimson Guard (Gulp, wish me luck) by reading other stuff for now :D

If there is too big a gap between books my interest will wane. I also just can't focus. It's like trying to watch two movies at the same time, flipping back and forth between the channels. I end up not being able to appreciate either.

Either the first book was meh and I'm not motivated to continue, or I loved it and want to immediately continue with the next, so a month is too long to wait.

Good to know I'm not alone on this in this group. xD I honestly have no idea how everyone in the group could read one book, then move to read other 10 or more books before going back to the sequel. Nothing wrong with it though! just no my style :D
Zaara wrote: "@Sendai...the Anna Karenina read is still ongoing...you can totally jump in! (I'll let you know if some turn of events rips me away from rollicking Riyria adventures and banter, where I'm overcome with the sudden urgent desire for a sprawling Russian epic.) But I definitely want to delve into another book together. Daughter of the Forest was such a fun one for me to read with you all.
Petrik wrote: "Precisely! If not the whole series, I want at least a sizable chunk that I can stick with. (I may never read The Kingkiller Chronicles...)

I need to try and find a better balance between buddy reads and my own reading pace in the future. My biggest problem is that I tend to forget details pretty fast and that definitely diminishes the reading experience in comparison to when I read the whole series without a break.
I feel like I've been pressuring myself a bit to much to buddy read sequels over the last few weeks.
Empress Virginie wrote: "I was thinking of organizing binge-buddy-reads in 2019 (like the Kate Daniels), something like a trilogy in one month. I know Karishma was interested in that :)"I love this idea, Virginie!
Great job, team!I am still on a book hangover, so I am pulling out from some BRs I had scheduled. I might need to go read another genre for a couple of weeks. :)

The Crippled God has crippled you? :P
Petrik wrote: "The Crippled God has crippled you? :P "It did! Finishing the main series gave me that feeling: "what will I do now?". Even if I still have other books in the Malazan world to read, it is hard to let it go. When a series makes me feel like that, anything I try to read after from the same genre will feel underwhelming.

Yes! I totally understand. That's what I feel after finishing Stormlight Archive/The Faithful and the fallen/Realm of the Elderlings. Need to take a break from the genre for a bit! :D

Well. Tooks me years to be able to abandon series I'm not enjoying anymore, and DNF books :O
Baby steps... ;)

Nice! I was wondering if this kind of BR would appeal to some people. I'm glad it does :D
I have too many books on my platter right now, but I'm def binging some series in 2019 :)

Yeah. But it's actually "unhealthy reading behaviour" (let's call it that) to read in a schedule you are not comforable with so you should not have to justify yourself for not doing buddy reads of sequels.

Oh, and thank you so much for recommending Pandora Hearts to me, Petrik. Just read volume 14 & 15, and found out that (view spoiler)I'm shocked, and heartbroken, and just.... *mind blown*
😱 😭 😵

You're welcome! Hahaha I know right!? Brilliant storytelling isn't it?? And you still have plenty of revelations to come! Enjoy!

I've just started doing that last month. I used to think that even if I'm not enjoying a book I have to buddy read the whole series. But this month I abandoned the buddy read for Naamah's Blessing and next month I'm skipping the Emperor's buddy read for book 2. If I don't enjoy a book I just shouldn't continue. If I do I start hating reading and burn myself out.
I've never had a problem dropping series if I'm not enjoying it. Unless I stumble onto the key for immortality, I'm never going to live long enough to try all the books I want to read so there's no time to waste on books/series I'm not enjoying. Gotta keep movin'.

Yes, like Petrik said I lose interest in series and forget details if there is too long a gap. I'm definitely interested in binge reading series like Virginie said!
I just finished binge reading one today and it reminded me how much better an experience it is!
And I did binge read every single Ilona Andrews *fond memories of sleepless nights*
I was thinking that the Murderbot Diaries might be a good choice for binging. Each is so short, that tackling them all together makes more sense. Do you guys have any series in mind that you'd like to binge?

Yes, exactly! I'm still working on that attitude.
Also, I think it's a good thing that there will be less BR-points next year, I feel like it definitely adds pressure to do as many BRs as possible.
Melissa wrote: "I was thinking that the Murderbot Diaries might be a good choice for binging. Each is so short, that tackling them all together makes more sense. Do you guys have any series in mind that you'd like..."We were planning to binge Jen Williams - Winnowing Flame in June middle/July.
Haven't thought of anything else yet.
Melissa wrote: "I was thinking that the Murderbot Diaries might be a good choice for binging. Each is so short, that tackling them all together makes more sense. Do you guys have any series in mind that you'd like..."Argh, I've got so many series on my TBR... A few I think it'd be fun to binge (on the top of my head):
- Wayfarers by Becky Chambers
- The Legend of Eli Monpress by Rachel Aaron
- The Vengeance Trilogy by Devin Madson
- Tales of the Ketty Jay by Chris Wooding
- The Books of the Raksura by Martha Wells
- Scorched Continent by Megan E. O'Keefe
- The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne
- The Divine Cities by Robert Jackson Bennett
I'd also be up for a Murderbot binge :) But I don't want to plan to much in advance. Like I said earlier, I'm focusing on my series challenge and my crazy BR schedule right now, and at least until end of October (and probably until end of 2018 :p)
- The Books of the Raksura by Martha Wells - Double Triple Yes!- The Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne
- The Divine Cities by Robert Jackson Bennett
Yes!!!!
Haven't heard of the rest!
I read The Divine Cities last year and really enjoyed it; each book was better than the last in my opinion. The Books of the Raksura definitely! Even though I haven't read her yet, I feel a Martha Wells binge in my future. Wayfarers, Eli Monpress, and Tales of the Ketty Jay are also on my TBR list. Eli Monpress sounds like a potentially light and fun one to try. I'm having so much fun with Sullivan's Riyria, that I wouldn't mind more snarky thieves in my life. The Troy trilogy by David Gemmell is another that I think I may potentially be consumed by and need to binge.
And yeah, more than planning anything, I was more just curious what series y'all felt might have that addictive quality ripe for binging. For me I think I want something A: not too long, B: lighter in tone, C: preferably with a helping of comedy or romance. Basically popcorn fantasy that I can eat by the handful.

That's how I was before joining the group. I still love a good binge read, but now there are just so many books on my radar. But I used to find a series and go through 4-5 book chunks, take a break with a diff book or 2 and then continue with that till i finished the series.
