Title: The Stone SkyAuthor: N.K. Jemisin
Pages: 416
Buddy Read: No
Challenge: Yes (Incomplete Series)
Total points: 5.3
This series has one of the most spectacular storytelling that I have ever read.
I love that series too. Plus she completed it within about 1200 pages. I think that’s an amazing accomplishment in the current trend of writing a 1200 pages book! 😄

Incredible right!? That last book was superb!
Great job, Miche :)I've read conflicting review about the Broken Earth trilogy. Seems people either love it or hate it with passion. Good to know it's a success among Fluffers!
And one more series goes on my "need-to-read-asap" list!
Aaaand one of my own!Swordspoint

Happy Birthday, Virginie! :D
Mistborn is the series that made me fall in love with Fantasy books. I hope you enjoy it.
:)
Thanks guys :)@Petrik: I bought it the second I read the benefices are donated to Médecins sans frontière. Btw, you're in the Acknowledgments. It's not a complete review written by you, but I can still brag, right?
@Miche: I love the Mistborn series! I'm slowly buying matching editions of books from my favorite authors so I can re-read again and again :)

For Mistborn I "only" have the ebooks and audiobooks.
Hehe. I have the ebooks of all Cosmere & Realm of the Elderlings but I want physical copies now so I can display 'em and tell 'em I love 'em every day xD

The story spoke to me. There are so many nasty things happening in the world at this moment, that the author's approach to racism, colonialism and catastrophes were very compelling. That she managed all that while highlighting humanity, parenthood, love and hope left me speechless. On top of all that, the book has strong female and male characters, different races, heterosexuals, homosexuals, transgenders, bisexuals, asexuals. She managed to balance all this without ever getting tacky, not even at the sex scenes.
Some people might not have liked it because of the second person point of view. Some people might not have liked reading a book about a strong 42 years old main character that doesn't fit male/white/hetero/perfect body that is so often found in the SFF.
It isn't a "fun" to read series. But every single book flared my emotions.

Same. I have the signed hardcovers of all his books except Mistborn for some reason. Need to remedy that.

That sounds right up my alley! I've always liked books raising the racism & colonialism issue; my mother lived through the Cambodian genocide and fled to France. Being half-khmer, I grew up with mild but constant racism. If this series highlights humanity and love, then I will surely end up loving it.
Just keep in mind you might need to read 80 or so pages before you get used to the second person point of view.Read Scott's review for The Fifth Season. He explains that part well.
This narrative didn't bother me at all. Maybe my gaming life made it feel like I was role playing. :)

Hahaha for me, I totally exclude my gaming life with novel narrative. It took me around 100 pages for me to get used to the narrative!! XD
