I am reading two big ones that are buddy reads at this moment, so I should have some points by the middle of the next week. Slow and steady! :)

Go Petrik!!! Was it the special anniversary addition? I'm wondering if it was as gorgeous as the cover and worth the buy. :)
Niki Hawkes wrote: "Go Petrik!!! Was it the special anniversary addition? I'm wondering if it was as gorgeous as the cover and worth the buy. :)"Yes!!! It was rhe 10th anniv edition! It was truly an amazing expetience. I gave my first read 4.5 stars rounded up. My reread was a 6/5 stars, I rank it as high and maybe even more than Blood Song now. So GOOD! XD
Petrik, I see that your reading Hobb (yay!!!). I just feel the need to say that I enjoyed this first trilogy quite a bit, but I didn't turn into a raving fangirl until the tawnyman trilogy. Just to temper your expectations a little haha.
Ha thanks. I have another I'm hoping to finish today or tomorrow, but won't be a buddy read. Gardens of the Moon is kind of pushing everything back.

I'm going to start the book tonight! I seriously can't wait, it's been sitting in my shelves for a year now! Thanks for the heads up, I also heard the same thing from many sources who love the entire series! :D
In two weeks, our team has read over 20000 pages. That's like half of my yearly average lol.
Feeling inspired, I decided to set a personal challenge goal of reading 200 pages a day. I tracked pages last week for a Read-a-thon, and found 200 is attainable when I choose reading over other inane activities. To hit that number, I will also need to continue working out for an hour a day (when I also listen to audiobooks), which gives me added motivation to keep with it. It will be important for me to remember with this goal that it's not about how fast I get through the books, it's about maximizing time dedicated towards the activity I love most.
Should be fun. :)

That's a good idea ^_^. Getting extra workout time to read is always great motivation on both sides haha.
I'll be done with Gardens of the Moon (hopefully) before the end of the week, and that'll get me a good bunch of points haha.
Haha, yeah I can't possibly hit that goal on a normal day without that extra hour, so I figure I can't lose.
Im making sluggish pace on that book because I'm still trying to finish a physical read book I started in 2017. Miche and I should each be adding a wholluping 1000 pages for Shadow Rising within the next couple of weeks, though. Sweet!

good luck, Niki!! You can do it!! For me, I usually fit in 150-200 pages. Even at my most busy days, I try to at least fit 100 pages a day. It's a perfect amount for me, I hope it will be the same for you! :)

Thank you! I think 100 - 150 is my current comfort zone, so it will be fun to see if I can increase that by shutting off my phone more throughout the day lol.

Niki Hawkes wrote: "Points!! Way to go, you three! Veronica, would you like me to enter those? :)"No, I can do it. I was going to say "yes, please" because when I went to the spreadsheet I initially freaked out looking at it. But as long as I just stick to my little tab I can manage, lol. I'm updating it now.
Niki Hawkes wrote: "Haha okay. I had your sheet open and can literally see you typing in the stuff. It's creepy."That is weird, lol.
Good job everyone! Haha, don't worry about the other team score. Just a reminder to not let this competition ruin your enjoyment. It's still January. If I may complain a bit. I think that the BR point should be decreased. Hear me out a bit, I have no problem at all with the encouragement for BR together by increasing the point gained; it's an awesome idea. But from what I saw in some of the thread, some people posted only once or twice but got BR bonus points. How is this considered a BR? I mean, I could just say I join the BR and posts "I started this book, it's good so far", by the end "i finished the book, I agree with you guys it's good" and voila, huge bonus point. (Doing this, I could even totally lie about actually reading the book.)
Don't mind me though, it's just my pessimistic side speaking and this is just my thoughts and the mods have done an incredible job hosting this. I'll probably join only a few BR throughout the year anyway xD

+1 to what you said.

I don't agree with this. I don't say much on Buddy Reads just because I'm not a talkative person. That doesn't mean I'm not reading the book. I love doing buddy reads though because I like reading other people's thoughts and ideas about the book.
Plus this is just a friendly competition and we're all adults. We just need to trust that people are doing the right thing. 😁

It's okay to disagree with me, I'm just saying what I think, haha because for me a BR is everyone participating in the discussions. For example, look at FBR Oathbringerr thread, that's an example of an ideal BR in my head and from my past experience too. I mean, it's also stated in the rules to participate actively in discussion.
"Earning these points requires timely reading of the book with the group and relatively active participation."
But as I said, don't mind me, I haven't even participate in any BR yet. It's just what I would do if I was in charge after looking at how empty the BR threads are :p

Feedback noted (and appreciated). :) I think you both touched on points the mods debated when trying to come up with the system. Ideally BRs would have more discussion than a couple of comments (sometimes I blame the book for that, other times I think some people stay quiet when they don't have anything profound to add). I think the current spirit behind the BR point value is to have people converging and feel like they're a part of something (making the choice to read the book at the same time as others in the group, which requires more effort), which I know you acknowledged in your comment.
My current opinion on the matter is that if they made time in their schedule to read the book with the group, then their participation counts. Hopefully we can generate more conversation as the reads go on as people get more comfortable with one another. I haven't seen any instance yet where I think someone is minimally commenting without reading the book just to clock in points, although you're right, someone could totally abuse the system if they wanted to. All that said though, my opinion is one of 5 mods, and I'm definitely still open to tweaking the system to make it better. I'll keep your feedback in mind as a discussion point when the mods converge to assess how the challenge is going once it has been going for a while.

Thanks for listening! :D It's really not that a big deal though, I'm just giving my input on what I think could be better from my perspectives, doesn't mean everyone or the majority will feel the same. Like Hacen said, in the end, it's all just healthy competition! :)

Valuable input. :) Keep it coming if you notice anything else. I know it's meant from a place of helpful observation rather than criticism. I have been helping plan and coordinate for so long that it helps to have fresh perspectives because I can't see the forest through the trees anymore lol.
AND YOU FINISHED HOBB!! :D
