I listened to the audiobook while queuing at a CPAM (Caisse Primaire d'Assurance Maladie) 'cause my social security card wasn't working. For 4 hours. And my problem isn't solved! I have to go back soon! I hate the French administration system.
So now, I'll forever associate this book with a cramped waiting room with no seats and a blinking light 😅
I've been MIA the last couple of days too due to sick kids at home. I was halfway through Deadhouse Gates when they got sick and haven't been able to make any progress with it but I'll hopefully be back in the reading saddle tonight, if not tomorrow. Great job, everyone else!
Thanks, Niki. The hardest part was trying to get the medicine into my eight year old son. It's been like calf roping. I've never known a kid to be so adamantly resistant to taking medicine.

@Veronica, I hope everybody gets better soon!@Petrik, you are devouring these books! Great job!
@Virginie, I remember this bureaucracy when I lived in France. I don't miss it! But yay for books! Great job!
I went a little crazy with my spreadsheet and added a bunch of stats. Now I know that, since I joined the challenge, I have read 17 books for 110 points and 30 (!) graphic novels for... 20 points.I'm surprised by how inefficient reading graphic novels is point-wise. :o
(but I'm really enjoying 'em :D)

I saw that you're reading some great manga, Virginie! I love Vinland Saga too! but yeah, point-wise graphic novels and manga are at huge disadvantages xD

@Petrik I actually picked it up at the library 'cause I thought it had a cool name. Didn't even check to story or the art. I'm glad it turned out very good :D
I have a few to update today. I tried doing it a couple of days ago, but the spreadsheet wasn't working for me and I got irritated lol. My reading significantly dropped off the map during the Olympics, but now I'm back to normal. ;P
So, I feel like I know you all, but I realized I really only know that you're cool people and you all like awesome books. I have a few fun "get to know Team Tome Raiders" questions I'll be posting for a bit because I think it will be fun. :)
Today's question: Where are you all from?
Originally from Denver, CO (USA), I moved to Utah when I was nine and currently reside in Southern Utah (near Zion's National Park). It's gorgeous here and I've no desire to ever move. It gets up to 115* F heat in the summer, which most people hate, but I bask in it like a lizard lol.

Sounds great! I'm from Jakarta (Indonesia), born and raised here all my life. Wont recommend anyone to go here unless they want great food, the city is a complete mess. Jakarta ranked the top 3 for worst traffic in the world 10 years in a row now, a 10 minute storm once caused a 20 minute ride into a 9 hours ride. Also, books are expensive and there are no public library for novels. As for weather.. it's 30-40 degree celcius 24 hours all year forever. I could create a 10k words review on how bad this city is really. Me and Silvana is from the same city! :)
Originally from Moldova (former USSR). Moved to Chicago when I was 5. Moved to New Jersey 5 years ago for my husband's job. Most of our family is still in Chicago though, so we go back often.

I think that makes your dedication to books all the more impressive. ;) What kinds of good food?! I just googled images of the city and the skyline of the big buildings does look really pretty. I always like visiting places like that, but I'm a country girl at heart (okay, if I'm honest, a small town suburbs kind of girl lol). The traffic would drive me nuts, how do you cope? And cool! I didn't know Silvana was from Indonesia too. :)

Sorry to intrude, but I just wanna say Petrik you need to figure out the safe hours to drive in the city lol. that’s why I prefer to go home, read some books and be anti social lol. I’d rather not waste my life getting stressed out stuck in traffic jams. But, they’re building, belatedly, some public transport infrastructure. So itlll be better starting late this year. Hopefully.
So, it’s not that bad. It’s still a beautiful country to visit.

I'm wondering how you feel about all of that cold weather? I'm such a wuss. I freeze when it gets under 60. Chicago seems like such an interesting city to live in, though. Did you like it there? Do you like where you are now? :)

I would imagine sometimes life's demands doesn't allow the luxury to pick when you have to travel through traffic or not. It also sounds like traffic is always bad there (top 3 worst in the world ranking, and all). Is that where you're from too?

NJ weather is def warmer than Chicago's though, so at least that's a plus. But while Chicago should be avoided in the winter at all costs, it's gorgeous in the summer. Lots of parks, and museums, zoos, sporting events, neighborhood festivals, outdoor seating at bars and restaurants, outdoor concerts. It's great in the summer. NJ is ok, and I love our house and the deer that live in our back yard, but my heart will always be in Chicago.

You know, when I think of cities I rarely remember all the potential cool things there are to do. It does sound like a lot of fun. :) Around here it's basically hiking and movie theaters and not much else.
For some reason I think NJ is nothing but city. That's cool that you live close enough to nature for deer to visit!

@ Niki yeah I’m from the same city. I’m just needling Petrik there, because I used to work near the same area where Petrik is working ... if I’m not mistaken. Lots of people chose to come to work earlier, maybe go to the gym before work or get some shuteye at the office. I chose to come later, and leave later. I found that to be the most efficient strategy, but then I was a consultant and my boss mostly cared about us finishing up good work products. So I was lucky in that respect. The traffic has gotten worse in certain areas, better in a few others. They’re doing a lot of things here, but the simple, reason for the traffic jams : just too many damn cars. It’s not all bad. Like I said they’re building some public transport infrastructure. Not enough, but better than nothing.
But, the most important thing is on Fri and Sat nights just don’t go to certain areas, due to the traffic. That’s how I keep myself sane lol.
But don’t worry Niki or anybody else. If you guys ever visit Indonesia, there are plenty of good foods. And we can go to other cities with less traffic and with beautiful places and views.

Illinois is flat, and boring. When it comes to natural landscapes, there's not much there.
I'm from Nice (south-east of France) and grew up in a village up in the Alps. Lots of nature, great hiking trails, skiing station close by and the Mediterranean Sea at 20min. The French Riviera is the best area of France for the weather: 10-15°C in winter, 25-30°C in summer and less than 30 days of rain per year :p It actually snowed for the first time in years yesterday, it was CHAOS 😂The downside of all of this is... Tourists. Tons and tons of tourists. Talking to me in Chinese just 'cause I'm half khmer (I only know how to say "little white goat" in Chinese ><) and driving ridiculously slow on the mountains roads.
So... I was born and raised near Nice, moved to Nantes then Paris for studying, went to Stockholm (Sweden) to do a Master and came back a few months ago :)
Ok, I'm trying to figure out how to add a picture....
EDIT: I did it! Woohoo. So yeah, that's where I grew up. No supermarket, no movie theater. There's ..huh... a tiny library, a primary school, some doctors and tons of "boulangerie". 'Cause we French do eat baguettes. With smelly cheese and red wine. Yup.
Virginie wrote: "'Cause we French do eat baguettes. With smelly cheese and red wine. Yup."Who doesn't?
P.S It looks beautiful.
On a completely different subject... My February tally!105 points, 12 books and 25 graphic novels, 10.852 pages.
I'm quite proud of myself :D
Yay Virginie!I added 3 more to the spreadsheet.

Oh, wow! Yeah, I'd totally live there too haha. That's gorgeous! I imagine the tourism would be nuts haha. We deal with a lot of that here too. You almost have to hike Zions in the off seasons just to have room on the trails.

Try searching "Martabak manis" for example. Sooo many!! I cope mostly like what Barry said, picking certain hours to drive. If you go somewhere in the morning, it's gotta be 5AM-7AM to be safe, or if you want to go somewhere at night, 9PM and above will be safest to avoid traffic. Here's how it looks like for the busy hours

And this happens ltierally almost everyday.

That's very very nice (bad pun intended). Anyway, I've always had this dream to just visit smaller towns all over Europe, because of views like that. Just breathtaking!

I also read through three volumes of One Piece. As little as they are worth, I thought why to waste the points, since I am reading it!
I am from The Netherlands originally, lived in London (UK) for ten years and then moved back to The Netherlands with my English husband, mainly because of, shock, horror, house prices. We have been back for three years now. I still miss England though!
