Chapter 15 (view spoiler)[ I'm surprisingly liking the romance blooming between Matthew and Diana. I'm wondering what will happen once Diana calls the book back.

Just finished chapter 12 (view spoiler)[ So the manuscript being about the origin of the all the species in this world which is pretty cool. I don't know how I feel about Clairmont being in love with Diana so quickly, but their little date was cute, it thought it was cute that she kissed him on the cheek! And wow Clairmort is super old! Just finished Chapter 9. For a moment there (in ch 9) I did not like how Clairmont was talking to Hamish about witches! (PS I'm curious how the audiobook is pronouncing Hamish, because I've been saying it in my head sort of how you pronounce Haymich, or however that is spelled, from The Hunger Games) Otherwise I do like Clairmont so far. I like Diana too, but, I think Diana is being super stubborn ... but ... the book hasn't gotten very deep yet regarding her parents' deaths and the true reason she refuses to use magic, so we'll see. The yoga class scene was awesome! I'd love to go to that class. And I was shocked when I found out (view spoiler)[ it was his house haha. (hide spoiler)]

Just finished Chapter 11. Ok so why are all these other creatures so obviously hovering around?? I mean I get that they're desperate to get their hands on Ashmole 782, but, like, what is their plan? To jump her as soon as she calls the book back up?

Nikki I am glad you are joining us! We are only on May 4: Chapters 13-16 so we aren't too far along! I finished Chapter 12 last night and will start on Chapter 13 after work today.

Finished Chapter 12 last night, on schedule! I agree with you about the Ashmole - that is really neat! But I am surprised that (view spoiler)[only the witches have a book like this in possession. I am surprised that vampires/daemons don't have a version of this too, protected by their magic. Do you think witches are the superior beings? And yes! Clairmont is so old. It would have to be weird dating someone 500+ years old... I LOVED the moment at the yoga class where Amira told Diana to lay on her side, instead of her back, and Diana & Clairmont had this moment while looking into each others eyes. Having taken many yoga classes myself, that is an intense moment in the class where all your "chi" comes to settle back down... to have someone look into my eyes like that would be extremely intimate! Like any book, it needs a bit of time to get going, and we need all these boring details to set the stage, but I would say I got interested at Chapter 7-8 and started to really want to go back to read. Once the yoga class scene happened I was kinda hooked, but I don't remember what Chapter the yoga class scene takes place. I wouldn't say I am "hooked" yet, but definitely interested.

What do you other girls think? When did you get hooked or are you not hooked yet?

No problem! Some are really short, like 5-10 pages, but I would say they are more around 12-15 pages each. But they're all different. Not too bad. Chapter 12 was a longer one.

I haven't seen this for free anywhere lately. I own an actual copy of book 1 and have not bought 2 or 3 yet because I don't know what format I want them in yet (audiobook vs. electronic vs. actual book). And yes, it's slow at the beginning. I'm hoping it picks up!! There is a lot of detail that I don't need & a lot of alchemy talk that goes over my head.

Yes and no, it depends it you like romances. It's spending more time on the relationship than the story.

Chapter 16 was pretty good! (view spoiler)[ It's from Marcus (his vampire son) POV which was cool. We got a little more of Clairmort back story, about his son and his history. And Diana is going to be super powerful (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ quickly this story introduced us to the main character as a scholar and then as a witch abandoning all her magical power, it told us little of her childhood with her mother and father and how her mothers knack for magical was almost instinctual it also told us quickly how and where she learned. And the chaos that followed her when she were part of the drama department, that bit I have to admit is intriguing. She found a book within the library at the Yale university she attended that grabbed her attention and not just her normal attention but her magical senses tingled too and it created doubt in her mind that the re wasn't anything about it. (view spoiler)[ wow it seems she truly is oblivious to the attention she's creating through the daemon, vampire and witch world but I guess that's completely under stable considering she doesn't travel in those circles and wants nothing to do with them. The meeting between Mathew and her was very interesting, sparks are sure to fly, he seems quite taken with the witch. (hide spoiler)]

I totally agree with what you said about Chapter 6 & 9 - (view spoiler)[do you think there was a history there with Chris? I think she said there wasn't but, sure seemed like a flirtatious relationship! I picked up on that too! And yeah I think if he had told her the yoga class was all creatures, she would not have gone! I am still glad she went through with the class instead of freaking and demanding he take her home or something. It was awesome to see the effort they put into mixing "breeds." (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ even though she said there was nothing with Chris it was like ok she's not had a relationship with him but I do think he wanted one or something did happen somewhere even if not a relationship there was too much flirting to just be a characteristic wasn't there?

Oh and I loved how he described the difficulties they had at the beginning about the yoga class not mixing breeds well but then learning to accept, it's like it's showing the modern form of diversity developing over time and treading a very careful path whilst doing it (hide spoiler)]

Holy chapter 15! We find out the meaning behind the name All Souls Trilogy (view spoiler)[and it's so cool that it's the name of Clairmont's college!! (hide spoiler)] and OMG when (view spoiler)[someone left the picture of her dead parents I was like (hide spoiler)] hooooolycraponacracker stuff just got real. On a different note, I absolutely loved Diana's description of the feeling when she (view spoiler)[falls in love with Clairmont. At least I think this is the moment she falls in love with him. Page 196, she says "From somewhere in the center of my soul, a rusty chain began to unwind. It freed itself, link by link, from where it had rested unobserved, waiting for him... At last it snapped to its full length, anchoring me to a vampire." (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I must admit I love the way Hamish was introduced so subtly and I love the way that he seemed to draw anything he wanted from Mathew without any real challenge the way they communicated was gentle, touching and more like brothers than friends. I love the way Hamish is clever about the way he draws out the information from Mathew carefully, well by distracting him really that's quite clever as he knows that Mathew won't just blurt it out, it isn't his way. I really hope Mathew is falling in love with her and not just after her power to read the manuscript. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ wow, that was an epic few chapter but seriously poor Diana doesn't get a break does she? So now we know her DNA shows only every single chromosome of any witch ever discovered we know she's not going to be able to fight her magic much longer... Well I hope not, I think she'll be an awesome witch and Mathew will finally have to stop bossing her around and actually listen to her. It was interesting to get an insight on Markus and to see from his prospectus his father, the exchange between the two of them about what to do with Diana, Markus is right Mathew needs to tell her the truth and let her make her own decisions she's a big girl, ok she's naive and thinks a lot of people are nice but she needs to know the truth so she can properly defend herself and stop relying on others to do it for her. Although I have to admit get scene where she got angry and blue sparks shot out of her fingers did make me laugh especially as Mathew seemed to relish her anger although not the hole in his precious rug lol.
