Bastiaan Koster (bastionmonk) | 15 comments The Gutenberg edition of Tolstoy's War and Peace does not have a total page number. I have the edition and the total page number is 746 pages. Half of most editions, very strange.

Could you add this number to the page information?

Also, why is the "series" title in Arab?

lethe | 13658 comments 1) please always provide ISBN or in case it has none, link to the edition in question.

2) page counts for ebooks should come from the publisher, because counts may differ between devices.

3) looks like someone incorrectly combined a 2-volume edition to this work. Don't have time to look into it right now.

According to Google Translate, it is Persian.
There are quite some issues already with War and Peace.
The default description mentions that it is an alternate cover edition. I've corrected that.

I'll see if I can find the editions that don't contain the whole book and separate them.

Arenda | 19987 comments From what I can see, there were only some issues with Persian editions. A 4-volume boxset was added as an edition, and all single volumes from that box set were also added separately. All were combined with the complete editions of War and Peace. All single volumes (that were part of the box set, and had a cover with a watermark on it) are merged now into the boxset.

The Persian series page is gone now. For any edition of War and Peace published in four volumes, were the editions are/were available as a single volume, there is already a series page:

The ebook's page on does not contain a page number.

lethe | 13658 comments After I replied here, I remembered some discussions on Project Gutenberg and other PD ebooks being not real ebooks if they were mere digitizations of old editions. (cmt #13-18) (from cmt #6 onwards)

I downloaded the epub to check, but the cover is a simple PD cover and the only credit in the book I could find is for the translators (added them to the book record). They appear on this Oxford World's Classics edition:, but no doubt on other editions as well.

So I think this PG edition is valid. Since no page numbers are given on the site, we cannot add them, due to different page counts among devices (the page count on my laptop is 3672, quite different from your 746 :) )
