theDuke | 5605 comments I'm going to change mine too, as I don't think there are enough 'all' gibberish songs out there to go around. It wouldn't surprise me if folks have picked the one nom I've got...by a little known (here), but very successful Italian artist.

I'll pick something else soon.

I've had a nom lined up for the gibberish round for weeks. Cocteau Twins' Pearly-Dewdrops' Drops. If the round isn't happening I'll just post it here anyway:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgk4E...

The hilarious thing about this is that someone has posted the "lyrics" under the video.

message 5: by Tech XXIII (new)

Tech XXIII | 6373 comments i had my nom almost set up for 'gibberish', but i hadn't decided which van morrison song to use! boom! :)

message 6: by theDuke (last edited Oct 13, 2017 02:06AM) (new)

theDuke | 5605 comments Well, I might keep it, if folks have got something to nom. Can folks give me an idea as to how many have found a nom...what research I did, didn't throw up many viable songs. There are only a couple songs containing truly gibberish lyrics, consisting of made up words & a few other that have gibberish phrases or choruses in them, like The Beatles Ob La Di, Ob La Da or Manfred Man's Do Wah Diddy Diddy, for example.

Gordon, your nom has legible words in it...even though the lyrics themselves make little sense....what I had in mine, were songs that have lyrics consisting of nonsensical or made up words...i.e gibberish! (foreign languages not included!)

But....it has given me an idea...maybe I could tweak my nom...to include songs that have lyrics written in the mother tongue, but makes absolutely no sense to anybody! Bohemian Rhapsody a good contender for that...a classic song...but what the heck is it about?!

If folks still don't quite understand what is required of my nom...then I'll put my nom up....but nobody else can have it...awright!

Those lyrics look distinctly incorrect too. :)

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2932 comments SussexWelsh wrote: ".... great track though, Gordon.

I love the song, SW. I think it's absurd, though, to assume that the words Liz Fraser sings constitute "lyrics": they are just sounds, in the same way that what Robin Guthrie & Simon Raymonde are playing are sounds. While particular combinations of syllables might constitute recognizable words, I don't believe that they were intended to have any meaning other than as sounds within a piece of music.

Re lyrics looking incorrect, I was going to post the Velvet Underground's Sweet Jane in tech & Suzy's lyric thread in the old place. When I googled the lyrics, however, there were two different sets in wide circulation, both of which were drivel. There are a few lines I've never been able to make out but I'm pretty sure they neither refer to Jack wearing a corset nor make use of ludicrously convoluted syntactical structures.

message 9: by theDuke (last edited Oct 13, 2017 02:21AM) (new)

theDuke | 5605 comments Ahhh....the 'lyrics' on the YT clip aren't true of the song then, sorry I misunderstood! Mind you...that's kinda fitting to the theme!

You can add your own artist/band nominations at the end of the list (Track 341 onwards), if you want to join in....the more the merrier!

I took over FA last year from another host, who has moved on, but Spacepig is kindly running it for now..until...I have more free time to resume it....should Spacepig wish to pass the baton back some day.
