Greg Levin | 26 comments Hi! I just tried to replace my existing author photo with a new one, and am not sure if it "took." Right now I just show up as a creepy ghost. ;) How long does it usually take before a newly uploaded author pic appears. (Today is my book launch day, and I'd hate to be so blank.) : )

Thanks!

Greg L

It seems to me that a profile picture should be instant. Perhaps ask on the author feedback group ( https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... ) because this group is only for catalog updates or contact GRs https://www.goodreads.com/about/conta...

Thanks, Corinne! Will reach out to that group now. (One of these days I'll figure Goodreads out—sorry to bother!)

haha no bother. Just trying to get you to the best & most appropriate spot. Looks like you got your picture sorted out. Congrats and happy launch day.

Greg Levin | 26 comments Thanks!

Now I'm just trying to add the paperback version of my book and combine it with the ebook edition. I'll let you know if I have any problems. Which, knowing me, I probably will. ; )

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

If you go to the ebook edition and click on add new book (near the description bottom where it says Other Editions) it will be combined without us helping. Use this link if you run into trouble.

YUP, problem. So, earlier this morning I went to "add a new book" for the paperback edition—instead of "adding an edition" to the ebook, like I should have done. I filled out all the info an hit create book, but nothing happened. THAT'S when I saw the "add edition" option by my ebook, so I tried that, but now it says my ISBN 10 and ISBN 13 are both already taken (due to my stupid attempt to add a new book before). Is there something you can do to make sure my paperback edition appears in my profile, and combines with the ebook version (so that the title shows 2 editions—paperback and ebook)?

Sorry for the trouble. Just would like to get this all sorted out so I can schedule a giveaway. Thanks!!

Okay, I'll paste my previous message into a new thread. Thanks!

These are combined now: https://www.goodreads.com/work/editio...

Can you add the cover or do you want me to get the one from amazon?

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Also I bet you didn't see it right away due to caching. I don't really know what it means but I hear it alot. LOL. It's a delay in the data. So you probably created it just fine, you just needed to let the system do it's thing.

Not to create more work for you, but now that you're aware of my technical ineptitude, would you mind grabbing the cover? And are you allowed to grab the same cover used for the ebook? I ask because Amazon/CreateSpace is still working on fixing the way the paperback appears on Amazon (duller than the actual cover). They said they'd fix it so that the Kindle cover appears as the paperback cover, but it may take a few more days. If you CAN'T do that, then I guess I'll have to live with the somewhat blah version of the striking cover. Let me know. THANK YOU!!

I'm going to use the cover you call blah so I don't get my librarian privileges revoked ;) But maybe another librarian with more experience will hear that they are the same cover and can make that decision. When the better cover is available make sure we are aware and re-explain it's the same but better, etc...

(p.s. you don't have to be technically savvy. You just write and let us help)

wait : http://greglevin.com/novels/in-wolves... is this the ppbk cover? it looks nice

I used that one, the one in the url of the book https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3... it's fine. they are exactly the same. It just "appears" duller on amazon.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Gerhard (gerhardh) | 25 comments Hello, I tried to upload a pic of Jacques Pauw to his author profile, but it doesn't seem to be working. I tried to replace it with a .JPEG from another source, but still no luck.

Author photos from random websites may not be added to author profiles on Goodreads. Please review the guidelines for adding author photos, found on every author profile's edit page.

Gerhard (gerhardh) | 25 comments What defines a 'random website'? The first one I tried was from News24, an accredited South African news agency, and then a pic from Jacques Pauw's Twitter feed.

Read through these threads
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Also as said, on the author profile edit page there are the rules.

Basically copyright issues.

I used the website address of the actual news article with the picture, not the picture source itself, and this seems to have worked, thanks.

I think we posted at the same time. That's going to get undone I'm sure. Read msg18.

Photos of living individuals rarely fall under public domain. Ones from news services almost never do.

Removed.

I have sourced an author pic from Tafelberg, the official publisher of Jacques Pauw.
http://www.tafelberg.com/Authors/8748
Please let me know if this is okay so I know in future, thanks.

Also no. Unless you have the explicit, written permission of the photo's copyright holder, you cannot use it.

To review what is on the profile edit pages:
before you upload an image, make sure that either:
You own the rights to the image (usually meaning that you created the image yourself)
You can prove that the copyright holder has licensed the image under a free license
You can prove that the image is in the public domain

Eish, thank you for the clarification. I think I have loaded a couple of author pics before that do not comply with these criteria - not many though. I will check when I have time and remove them.
