Arka (ruineleint) Um.. starting tomorrow, I think.

Mayim de Vries | 2864 comments I'll be starting tonight. If it is as good as the previous one, I'll be probably done pretty fast.

Miche | 2939 comments I will be late for this one. Work has been consuming a lot of my reading time lately. :(

message 13: by Arka (new) - rated it 4 stars

Arka (ruineleint) Started. 5 chapters done.

Initial thoughts:

This book so far strikes me as being far better than the last one. The potential conflict is already pretty clear.

(view spoiler)

I really am enjoying Otah's rebellious tradition-breaking attitude. I love it when people give age old customs a kick in the pants.

Timelord Iain | 14937 comments 15-20% in: wasn't expecting (view spoiler)

re 15% RIGHT!!!! (view spoiler)

Timelord Iain | 14937 comments In hindsight I SHOULD have seen it coming... ~30% in now...(view spoiler)

I like how every book gives more meaning to the Long Price... (view spoiler)

Mayim de Vries | 2864 comments But the ultimate price I guess refers to the poet paying for the failed binding. (view spoiler)

Yea... (view spoiler)

Around 66%: That battle (view spoiler)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1767 comments Okay just started.

prologue
Dang why so somber
is this the first time we had a Galt POV?

chapter 1
(view spoiler)

Timelord Iain | 14937 comments @Silvana: I think it was an unrequited thing in the 2nd book...

Finished: Ouch (view spoiler)

All in all, a great book... only one left, now :(

Mayim de Vries | 2864 comments Off note regarding parental issues (view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 5103 comments Starting today. Sorry for being late to the party...

message 23: by Arka (new) - rated it 4 stars

Arka (ruineleint) Hmm.

So this book continues the dark, bleak tones of the series, but in a rather different way.

To be honest, I am not terribly interested in the politics at Otah's court, though I am fascinated by Maati's plans.

This much seems clear, that without a fresh binding (view spoiler)

Timelord Iain | 14937 comments The ending to this one really surprised me... if I wanted to be hypercritical, I could probably make the same argument I did in the last book about (view spoiler)

And frankly, (view spoiler) made a good argument towards the end that (view spoiler)

Mayim de Vries | 2864 comments I thought that a Family was an important theme on this book.

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1767 comments chapter 16 (around 63%)
(view spoiler)

As with the previous book, I liked reading Chemai and Stone-Made-Soft. The later is rather hilarious with his one-liners.

Liat and Maati
(view spoiler)

Liat and Kiyan
(view spoiler)

Miche | 2939 comments I am starting it now. :)

message 28: by Arka (new) - rated it 4 stars

Arka (ruineleint) Ok, so the last part of this book is gut-wrenching in its brutality.

(view spoiler)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1767 comments Hi Miche, welcome to the ride.

Arkadeb, maybe (view spoiler)

It was an unexpected ending and I was a bit bummed with (view spoiler)

I thought that the closing of chapter 15 and the opening of 16 was viciously brilliant.

Miche | 2939 comments Very somber prologue! The war feels very close...

So far the book has been very interesting!

Miche | 2939 comments Chapter 9, 38%

(view spoiler)

I am enjoying the book but at the same time I keep avoiding picking it up. Moody reader issues. 😉

Miche | 2939 comments Just finished it.

(view spoiler)

Choko (chokog) | 5103 comments Starting this one as we speak... Hope I like it:)

Timelord Iain | 14937 comments Choko wrote: "Starting this one as we speak... Hope I like it:)"

I think you will... for obvious reasons, these books really build on one another like everyone says they do...

Cool! Because I loved the previous two:)

Mayim de Vries | 2864 comments I am sure you will. It is also very intense, just in a different way (yet again!). I love how this author wastes nothing. Not a single motif or a character.

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1767 comments Do you guys think the books are getting grimmer every time? Not just the endings but the overall tone.

Mayim de Vries | 2864 comments All I know is that I hate the Galt general.

Yeah... as Otah/Maati grow older and more world-wise...

Miche | 2939 comments Silvana wrote: "Do you guys think the books are getting grimmer every time? Not just the endings but the overall tone."

It is. But with war at their door, I don't think there was much choice.

Also, the mothers and fathers emotions... Wow! Minimalist, but very powerful!

Choko (chokog) | 5103 comments Gash, are they going to get a break??? This is just too much... They suck at war...:((((
