Fortunato | 19 comments Two kindle book entries are assigned an author which disagrees with their amazon listings

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

amazon currently lists for

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

rather than

https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I don't (yet??) have librarian status, co could a librarian please update these two?

Thanks

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments Merged the authors, since they're just different formatting of the same thing. I merged into K.T. given GR's policy that initials always have periods.

Fortunato | 19 comments Thanks! I thought that might be the resolution.

I suspect K.T. covers more than one author (and I'm sure there are other cases) - what's the situation with different authors having the same name? Do they just share a listing?

We disambiguate by adding spaces between first and last names, or between initials and last name. Those spaces are only visible on edit pages, but they do create a new author profile :)

Aha! What if the author only has one name, for example Rebecca and REbecca? A trailing space perhaps??

lethe | 13730 comments Single-name authors cannot be disambiguated, at least not by librarians. It is for staff to decide how to handle those.

Fortunato | 19 comments Hmm, okay. One last question, at least for this thread :) - are the rules regarding initials soft or hard? If someone tries to add a new book from 'kt' would that be rejected and/or replaced with 'K.T.' or would it be allowed? Maybe soft, as two character combinations could be a name or initials - Di or D.I.

I'm just wondering as if I follow K.T. will I miss any new titles added from kt, for example.

Krazykiwi | 1767 comments The rules are, initials should have periods. The import bots however don't know the rules. Future books will probably continue to be imported automatically to the kt profile and need to be moved or the authors merged again.

Fortunato | 19 comments Right. So I need to keep a watch out!

Thank you both for your help!
