Rather than delete, we prefer to make corrections (also GR doesn't delete editions with a valid ISBN).
I see the current cover is the same as the old covers; was this cover used on any of the new editions with this ISBN (advance copies either in print or electronically)?

Also, it looks like this HC edition was added by you, but has an invalid ISBN that's one digit off from the new HC edition you'd like changed- https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3.... Can you tell me if this edition actually uses the ISBN, or if it is a mistake?

Okay. Posting here is the better option; using an invalid ISBN to get it to save is not encouraged- we can help! Please see the question in #2.

"It is important never to alter an ISBN simply to get a book to save" (https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/2...)
Besides causing confusion, it creates a lot of extra work for librarians. Instead of simply editing the existing edition, we now have to separate and merge both duplicates, recombine with the other editions and still correct the existing edition.

I'm aware of that, but per my response in message 5, I need you to answer the question in message #2 before I can touch that cover.

Until you answer my previous question, your links do me no good- was the edition in question ISBN 9780008221386 ever circulated with the current cover (yes, I know you've said it's incorrect), either in print or electronically on advance reader copies?
and the Kindle edition you just linked me to is already on GR here https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3....

Thanks, Tim. Looks like someone went in and changed the cover on their own. I'm reverting until I hear back from the author.

Not a member of the Librarians Group, so it was probably a coincidence (worked on other books by Mark as well).

Thanks, lethe :)

Thanks, Georgeana ;)

can you please tell us exactly what it is you need to know from the author so that we can get the cover updated correctly?
thanks!

Is there something I'm missing? I've asked the author the same question twice in this thread, it's not hiding. It would be preferable to hear from him; I'm not quite sure what's going on here.
Psst this one says "don't recombine queued for merge" but it got recombined. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

Thanks, Corinne :) It was recombined, and I re-separated it with the edition it needs to be merged with (so there should just be 2 editions together).

I joined the thread with a friendly demeanour and asked a simple question. I essentially got told to go away.
I'm not going to come back to this thread to argue it out with you people further, but seriously, you should reflect on your interactions with people. You're unhelpful, unfriendly and unwelcoming.

Librarians are supposed to maintain the integrity of the database. You jump in here without apparently bothering to read the thread.
Cassandra repeatedly asked the author to supply the information necessary to decide whether a cover change is according to Goodreads policy. Author has not answered her question yet. Instead he asked you to change the cover for him.
You're unhelpful, unfriendly and unwelcoming.
Ignoring very legitimate questions is not in any way helpful or friendly.

You weren't told to go away, and nobody was purposely rude to you. The author was asked a simple question, multiple times in this thread, after which I had no response. I'm sorry you feel that way, but we are just following policy.

Just to make you aware I've separated the books by content.
It seems these two were published in 2015. The books contain 10 stories. Here are the reviews for the English version. You can see the book was sold at the time.
I have left the new expanded version separated here.
it seems the issue with this edition (or the new expanded editions) is that it uses the cover from the old book. I'm wondering if the cover got uploaded to the book by title... oh well. Who knows?
If you guys agree that the older and newer version of the book should stay separated please feel free to expand/elaborate on the librarian notes. Otherwise please let me know if they should stay combined.

Take it away, Ellie. The author never mentioned that it should be separate, nor responded to my request for information about the cover (which may have led to them being separated before this), so feel free to do as you will.

If the author ever decides to elaborate on the covers I would also like confirmation about the series numbering for the two works so we can set those correctly as well. Currently both are numbered 1.5, 2.5, 3.5.
Too bad when users and authors take things personally and do not wish to help us, taking into account we are doing all this work. It's the same questions we ask everyone....
Not much more we can do :)

to allow me to make a correct entry. About the only correct thing in the entry is the ISBN which is stopping me from creating an accurate entry.
It should be a new edition of the original https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2... with a new cover, format, page count, description and modified content list
