The National Book Awards Shortlist was announced this morning and quite a few POC made the list. Which books on the list have you read? I just started reading The Leavers by Lisa Ko and really enjoying it so far.

Here’s the finalist list which also includes books that were longlisted as well. Any snubs you see?

On the fiction side all of the shortlisted books were already on my tbr list.

I have already read The Leavers and Pachinko.
Currently reading Dark Crossing (just at the beginning but liking, I have read the author's first book)
Her Body I am on my library's hold list
And for Sing, will be reading In Nov for a book group.

On the nonfiction side I have read two of the finalists
Never Caught and Killer Moon.
Of the other finalist - the only one that maybe was thinking of reading was Democracy in Chains

I have not read any of the poetry books but all my reading friends keep saying I need to read Don't Call Us Dead.

Similarly to the NBA “5 under 35” list which was revealed recently where all 5 selections were women. 15 of the 20 authors on this list are women - yes, 15 - and many are women of color.
