Another one down. Tom Petty's music was the soundtrack for a lot of my life. Everyone knows his music. It's sad to see him gone!

1. Thomas Earl Petty was born October 20, 1950, in Gainesville, Florida, the first of two sons of Kitty (Avery) and Earl Petty.

2. His interest in rock and roll music began at age ten when he met Elvis Presley. In the summer of 1961, his uncle was working on the set of Presley's film "Follow That Dream" in nearby Ocala, and invited Petty to come down and watch the shoot.

3. One of his first guitar teachers was Don Felder, a fellow Gainesville resident, who would later join the Eagles.
🎸 Read a book where a character helps another character to become successful OR with a character that is a teacher.

4. Petty also overcame a difficult relationship with his father, who found it hard to accept that his son was "a mild-mannered kid who was interested in the arts" and subjected him to verbal and physical abuse on a regular basis. Petty was extremely close to his mother, and remained close to his brother, Bruce.

I should have included a bit of trivia I heard on the radio last week - I forgot all about it. Tom stopped doing soundchecks before concerts years ago. He said they were a waste of time.

Seriously? Now that's interesting. I don't know how I feel about that. I guess if you're comfortable with your gear, ok. But each venue is different. But his voice is so happy. And he's so chill.

I can't believe we won't get another Tom Petty experience. 😢
