Even though this book is completely overdramatic, it's just so fun! I love the intrigue, the conspiracy, all the cloak and dagger stuff. It's a little too neatly tied up in a bow in the end (well, not completely I guess, since Laura will never get her money back), with all the baddies getting their due, but there's something satisfactory about that, if not entirely realistic.
