Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments Welcome to the members of Team 4! All I could think of was the Fab Four when I made our thread. We can call ourselves by another name. It's just a place holder for now.

Have fun gophering.

I have to agree. The movie about the Fabulous Four was on tv not all that long ago, and I instantly thought of them when I saw I was on team 4. :)

Click on the title "TBR Topplers" at the top of the page. Just to the left of the group's avatar (black with red heart) there is a tiny link that reads "new topic". Click on that link. In the Topic field, give it a name, then write our your first comment for the thread and then post.

Thanks and I tried that. It keeps asking me to verify my email address. I won't clog up your thread, sorry.

Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments Jannene, are you on your cell? Maybe try logging into the website through a browser. If you still have difficulties, maybe search/post on Goodreads Feedback group to see if others have had this difficulty.

Would you like me to set up your thread for you?

message 19: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments It's time to ask the big questions...

Who will be our fearless superpower leader?
Who will keep score?
Who will cheerlead?

I will be missing in action later in the week. I will be at a quilt retreat for most of Friday and Saturday, so I would rather pass on taking a role (other than reading).

message 20: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments I've done some preliminary gophering for the toppler. I think these four will be a definite:

X-Men:
Rogue - Wandfasted

Avengers:
Black Widow - Casino Royale (espionage)
Hulk - The Android's Dream (sc-fi)

Suicide Squad:
Deadshot - Fire And Ice (carries a gun)

I'm not sure I'll get any more read, but I do have some short books waiting in the wings.

Esther (nyctale) | 4133 comments I can keep score.
I will come up with a list of possible later today.

Speadsheet partially done...

message 23: by Lara (new)

Lara | 1426 comments Hi Everyone! I'll spend some time gophering today. I'll be traveling and at a conference Sun-Tues, so will focus on listening to audiobooks while on the road, but will have less time to read those days otherwise.

message 24: by Mariab (new)

Mariab | 3059 comments I'm not sure I will be able to check the thread each day, but I'll cheer whenever I can... (cheer-follower, not cheerleader)

I can read: (only 2 of them, I never could read more in a Toppler)

Cyborg - Read a book with a cyborg, robot, or artificial intelligence

Captain America -Go Set a Watchman

message 30: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments I've put a link to the spreadsheet in the first message for easy access.

Once we have a few more people checked in and their choices entered, we can start strategizing for the bonus points for completing an entire superhero group.

message 31: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 4133 comments I can commit to:
Ever after: wonder woman and also captain america / and maybe al diablo if you think it is acceptable fire. Ever After (The Hollows, #11) by Kim Harrison

Mysterious Fragrance of the Yellow Mountains: aquaman or wolverine/batman

message 32: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Hi everyone. I'm Laura and I'm new to the group. I have just been assigned to your team.
What do I have to do? Check the spreadsheet for remaining open slots and choose the category from there? Or will you guys assign me a category?

message 33: by Esther (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 4133 comments Hi Laura,
Just let us know what you plan to read and what category it fits in.

Sure, The more categories we have, the better, but it is also what you want to read.

For example, i usually read more than the 2 books i currenty said i would read. When i finish them, I will try to find books that fits then.
Also, lots of book fits more than one category and can be moved around to optimize our reading.

message 34: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Hi Esther. Can I choose any of the categories in the superhero toppler?

I think, is a acceptable fire; Kristie has allowed a candle as fire in the main thread

yes!!! I am moving it to El Diablo then. :)

message 38: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments Welcome Laura! I'm so glad you've decided to join us for your first toppler. I think Esther has answered your questions. Holler if you have more.

message 39: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments Robyn wrote: "Happy to be part of the team! This is my first toppler :)"

Sorry Robyn. I meant to welcome you to your first toppler and our team. It must of been one of the meant to do it, but didn't follow through. So welcome. Let us know if you have any questions.

message 40: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Thank you Janice. I'm real happy to be part of this team.

I have already chosen a few books:

For X-men Beast: Beauty of the Beast Beauty of the Beast (Fairy Tale Retellings #1) by Rachel L. Demeter

For Suicide Squad Captain Boomerang: The Crown Conspiracy The Crown Conspiracy (The Riyria Revelations, #1) by Michael J. Sullivan

For Avengers Antman: Born to Run Born to Run by Michael Morpurgo

Also, could you please let me know if I can set:

Dragonmaster Dragonmaster (DragonMaster, #1) by Chris Bunch for X-Men Magneto? The MC seems to try to be daring and ruthless and is supposedly consumed by dreams of power. Could you please let me know if it goes? Because I am not sure

and either

Sword-Singer Sword-Singer (Tiger and Del, #2) by Jennifer Roberson or Ironhand's Daughter Ironhand's Daughter (The Hawk Queen, #1) by David Gemmell

Both these books have a strong female MC. Will either one of them go for
for Justice League Wonder Woman.

message 41: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments The best place to ask for a ruling, Laura, is in the main toppler thread. That way Kristie will definitely see the questions and will answer them for you.

An antihero, or antiheroine, is a protagonist who lacks conventional heroic qualities such as idealism, courage, or morality. Do you think the MC in Dragonmaster fits that criteria?

It sounds like both Sword-Singer or Ironhand's Daughter would fit for Wonder Woman.

Best to double check with Kristie, though.

message 42: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47159 comments By the way, Laura, I like the books you've chosen. Crown Conspiracy is one of my favourite series and authors.

message 43: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Janice wrote: "By the way, Laura, I like the books you've chosen. Crown Conspiracy is one of my favourite series and authors."

Thank you Janice. I honestly don't know about the MC in Dragonmaster. I have that book scheduled as a BR next week in another group and I was wondering if I can include it in this challenge. If not I will change it with something else. I already have my eyes on Hunted by Meagan Spooner: it has an arrow on the cover.

Should I ask about all the books on the main thread for Kristie to check?

And does our team get any points if one of us reads 2 books on the same theme? For instance if I were to continue with book 2 of Crown Conspiracy?

Sorry for the bombardment with questions.... :(

Esther (nyctale) | 4133 comments Laura wrote: "Janice wrote: "By the way, Laura, I like the books you've chosen. Crown Conspiracy is one of my favourite series and authors."

Hi Laura,

Here is how the score wiorks;:
All books will be worth 10 points. Teams will get an additional 20 points for completing a section.

So yes.there is points for all books read. It is just the extra point for bonus that we are trying to get. :)

You do not need to ask Christie unless you are not sure.

and team.. i had a busy day yesterday. I will update the spreadsheet this pm.

message 45: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Hi Esther,

Thank you for the explanation. I'm sorry I already posted my book choices on the main thread for approval. Should I delete the comment?

message 46: by Laura (new)

Laura (lauradragonchild) Kristie told Dragonmaster doesn't fit so I'm gonna take it out. I'd also like to remove Ironhand's daughter from the list.
Would that be Ok?

message 47: by Robyn (new)

Robyn (robyn_r) | 17 comments After some time searching (and looking what every one else has chosen so I can choose some superheroes that were not picked as of yet)) I have finally found the books I want to read.

X-Men
Storm Read a book where a natural disaster is central - Lou Cadle Quake Quake by Lou Cadle

Avengers
Hawkeye Read a book with the word arrow in the title or an arrow on the cover or where a character uses a bow and arrow - Kristen Simmons - The Glass Arrow The Glass Arrow by Kristen Simmons

Suicide Squad
Enchantress Read a book with an archaeologist or where someone finds an artifact or there is an antique shop Susanna Kearsley - The Shadowy Horses The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley
