Thanks! And yep, I think I'll write a couple more scenes for this little story!

Jane Blythe Here's the next part in this little story . . .

Pain.

As Elizabeth slowly resurfaced from the dark place that had claimed her she was struck by so much pain it almost sunk her back down into the dark.

Something held her back.

Something cool was on her forehead while the rest of her body felt like it was on fire.

Fire.

She remembered the basement where she'd been kept filled with flames.

Was she dead?

She didn't feel dead.

"Shh, sweetheart, you're safe now, just rest."

The voice was familiar and yet not. Who was he? Where was she? Why wasn't she dead? So many questions, she wanted answers but she was in so much pain.

Elizabeth battled the pain and conquered it enough to crack her eyes open. She saw a face. A man's face. He had the greenest eyes she had ever seen.

Her mind was darkening, the little strength she had quickly failing, but before it dragged her under she needed to know one thing. She needed to know if this was real, if the fire had really claimed her tormentors. She tried to ask him, but her voice didn't work, and her smoke clogged lungs seized sending her into such a violent coughing fit that she almost blacked out.

"Don't worry, sweetheart, I burned them all."

The man's words soothed her, his green eyes filled her with a peace she hadn't felt in a very long time.

Content, she let the darkness claim her.
