Mother Carey's Table (view spoiler)[ I have never read anything by J Anderson Coats, have you? I liked this story. I really enjoyed how she was pretending to be a boy so she would fit in on the pirate ship. I found it strange how most of the pirates couldn't swim. I can't believe the captain just left her after she went and sunk the Spanish ship. When she was under the sea in the afterlife (I presume) that was really strange. Was the man at the end she was referring to her father? (hide spoiler)]

Mother Carey's Table(view spoiler)[I have never read a pirate story before.This was my first time and it was so good.I love the whole pirate myths about Mother Carey's chickens.I loved the narration too.
Especially this line
“Don’t you make Mother Carey angry, harming those birds.” I stab a finger at the feathery shadows tiptoeing across the water below. “Or else she 'll call up a storm so she can serve our drowned guts to Davy Jones for tea.”I have never read anything by this author before.I wish it was a bit longer.I would give it 3.5/5. Mother Carey's Table(view spoiler)[But I love Joe's character.A slave girl disguised as a sailor boy, a black girl.A very well written character.I just wish the ending was a little slow, the author could have held the suspense a little longer. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I loved the Alaskan setting of this one. The writing was really great. I liked how she was named after the red aurora. This was also cool how it was talked about at the start and then ended with her seeing it in the sky. I really liked the Alaskan culture and language that was present throughout the story and also the spiritual side. I enjoyed the relationship she had with her dogs as well, I would rate this one 4/5 (hide spoiler)]

The Journey by Marie Lu
I too liked the Alaskan setting.I have never read a Marie Lu book before(ashamed as I am), but I have only heard good things about her writing.So, I had high expectations from this one.And I am very pleased.Her writing is so good, I could picturise whatever I read.
I think I like it better than the first story.I will give it a 4.5.
