Suggested break down of reading so that you can check in and let us know how you're doing. The following breakdown is purely a suggestion and is therefore not set in stone.

Rather than putting dates for each section I've done it so that it takes into account that not everybody will necessarily have the book at the same time.

I quickly read this book today and I have so many questions now! I will wait until more people are done reading before posting them.

I already read it, also. I liked it better than Gathering Blue, but I have so many question! It also seemed very relevant to things happening in our world today.

Finished reading it. Loved how both previous stories came together. Liked how Matty turned out to be a very important character. And how people wanting to be more or be somebody they are not and wanting to have things that aren't even that important, end up ruining their own happiness, but unfortunately also the happiness of others. I still have a lot of questions, as I had at the end of the previous two installments, but I'm expecting to have them all answered by the ending of the final installment (otherwise it will get a very low rating, don't like open endings!)

Agreed, Susy. I expect to have my questions answered as well. You'd think in a 4-book series, that would be a given, so...Here's to hoping! lol

I just finished this book, and while I didn't like it nearly as much as The Giver, I liked it much better than Gathering Blue.

My review: (view spoiler)[A short, easy read & interesting addition to The Giver series. I liked it better than Gathering Blue but not nearly as much as The Giver.

It seems that the series has grown increasingly supernatural with each book. The Giver didn't have much of that in comparison, and I preferred that more. However, I did enjoy getting to see Jonas again. I liked Matty's character in Gathering Blue and was glad to get to follow him in this book. Seer seems like a kind-hearted & compassionate character, and I enjoyed the relationship between him & Matty.

The ending, though! I am glad that Matty was able to save Village, but his death just happened so suddenly. And while Matty is not Seer's blood, he raised him as his own and he knows him better than he knows his own child. I can only imagine how heartbroken he's going to be when he finds out.

This book was a lot better than the previous one, and I am looking forward to reading Son next to complete the series. Hopefully all of my questions will be answered in that one. (hide spoiler)] :D
