Ok, so it looks like this book is read often. I want to hear your thoughts about it.

I will post more thoughts as soon as I finish reading it. One thing I can say so far is that the narrator/protagonist is obsessive in a way that seems opposed to his profession as a private detective. He seems to linger on "clues" that hardly seem relevant, which makes me think Abe, like Peter Handke's protagonist in The GoalKeeper's Anxiety at the Penalty Shot who becomes obsessed to the point of paranoia, is using the mystery novel form to explore the psychology of a man going through what might be considered an existential crisis.
