Servius Heiner The cost of living in Alaska has skyrocketed in the last 6 months. This blows. My monthly grocery bill has exceeded 1k a months. Umm I live in a house of two, me and my wife that barely breaks 100LB soaking wet WTF Donald duck. Heating oil is back up to 3.80 but that doesn't matter yet because it is still summer and thus consumption is minimal.

Then there are the happy forest fires. There are currently 29 wild fires in Alaska, 14 of them are in the interior(Fairbanks area) There appears to be a biblical manifestation of the Apocalypse; 2.5 million acres are currently burning happily. All is burning and wildlife has nicked off somewhere unknown so everything seems strangely barren... eveything seems to be leaving except the fucking tourists. Fucking go home assholes!

I am grasping at straws about what to read now... Nothing is reaching out to catch my attention. so I have been re-reading books lately, which is fine, I like re-reading god stuff, but I want something new. damn-it.

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments I haven't had the chance to read either of these yet, but here you go.

If you like Asimov, try this:

If you want some horror, this is supposed to be really good:

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments What's the book called? FYI - those are links to online books; I don't know if I made that clear.

Kasia Sorry to say it but the high food prices make sense, it's the same with Iceland and Scandinavia, it's just close to impossible to grow any food in such cold places. But look on the bright side, isn't Alaska like the richest state? You guys should be able to afford pricey groceries... Not that it doesn't suck, because it does.

Servius Heiner Rusty, I pulled a Biden... I meant House of Suns by: Alastair Reynolds.

And Yeah that grocery bill does not make me happy.

Rusty (rustyshackleford) | 2198 comments I was wondering how Asimov had written a new book, being dead and all.

Servius Heiner right... kind of made it a bit difficult.

And It appears I was wrong twice... it isn't new either, It came out last year.
