I have just posted a BS 136, which is a discussion of Language at the Speed of Sight: How We Read, Why So Many Can’t, and What Can Be Done About It by Mark Seidenberg. This book provides an overview of current scientific knowledge about how people read and a sobering look at the gap between science and current educational practices.

Dalton Seymour | 20 comments It's been a while since you did a book review. I had forgotten how much more interesting they can be than the interviews with authors. I think it's the depth you seem to add.

I'd like to draw your attention and the attention of your listeners to a Radiolab episode called Words. It addresses the rather rare occurrence where an oral in any form is absent in some people. I think it's one of the best Radiolab podcasts ever done.
