Anyone familiar with mystery novels will know that there's a certain formula for detective stories. Does this book follow those cliches?

I thought "Moonstone" was one of the original mystery novels and set some of the standards for these type of books. That's why I read it along with Sherlock Holmes.

I do not read mystery novels as a rule, but will read the odd one if it comes highly recommended.

Beth A. (bethalm) I was a little thrown when the detective presented his theory and the book was only 1/3 over. That's unusual, it's usually the wrap-up.
