Fran | 12307 comments Hi Jane!

One more just in case I switch my choice- does this work? Too Close to Call (Romancing the Clarksons, #3.5) by Tessa Bailey

Oh yay thanks! XD Handy! In that case I'll count Sandcastle Empire :)

Anna Serene (anna_serene) Will this one work? The Offer by Karina Halle

message 206: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24522 comments I’m going to say no Anna ~ I think the cover is a bit too bright. The blue isn’t dark enough to counter the pink. :(

Suzanne (esmerelda1) | 2244 comments Would this count as a dark cover?

The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms (Inheritance Trilogy, #1) by N.K. Jemisin

It looks more dark than light to me

Jane (PS) | 24522 comments Hi Suzanne ~ happy that one works :)

Tink Magoo is bad at reviews (tinkmagoo) | 1398 comments Would this work Jane? Over half is darker but the blue might be too light?
The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman

or this one
The Fifth Doll by Charlie N. Holmberg

message 216: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24522 comments Hi Tink - Yes to the first since there is no other lighter colour competing with that blue (and I can’t call that blue ‘bright’); but no to the second...

message 230: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Jane, J.C. hasn't been around all week. I reached out to her today to make sure she's okay.

message 231: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Jane, I heard back from JC. She's pretty sick and hasn't been up to reading. She knows she's a couple of books behind and said she would probably have to play next time. I'm not sure what you want to do but I wanted to let you know.

Thanks for letting me know. We let JC bow out of the rest of this round. Hope she feels better soon!

Huh. Really? I mean, where I am, we don't change time at all (Yay!!!), but time change for the rest of Canada is sometime in the early morning on Nov. 5. :)

Maybe where you are Chan, but I work off NY time :) My handy-dandy time converter tells me it is 4.15pm... Nice try!

Not to mention the fact that if the time had changed this weekend we'd be going the other direction and have to wait even LONGER!!! =P

Chan | 5155 comments It was worth a try :o)

Karen, I'm so looking forward to my extra hour of sleep, but I was hoping Jane didn't realize the time was Falling Back, not Springing Forward.

I guess I can wait a couple of more hours.

It was ALMOST a good gambit ~ I don't move time in my state, so all the time changes confuse the hell out of me! But I DO know that the calls at either at 8am or 9am Saturday my time. So 7am just didn't cut it ;)

Jane (PS) | 24522 comments An early call since Chan is so desperate ;)

Week 9

Option 1
14. Time to work together to get to King Kandy first!
The team needs to spell out 'Candy Land' as much as they can by reading a book whose title starts with one of those letters. You cannot use the same letter. However for the letters that are found twice (A, N and D), two members may use the same letter.
(Obviously some letters won't be used since there are a total of nine letters and only 5/6 team members.)
Captains, please set out this week's post with the letters in the order of their spelling for each of the books read.

Option 2
Key date: 5 May 2017

Please ensure you follow the format shown in msg 3 of your team threads. when you post your selection and completion posts.

message 245: by Jane (PS), Moderator (last edited Nov 03, 2017 02:06PM) (new)

Jane (PS) | 24522 comments Captains - If you have a member who hasn't shown up this week, or is late with completion posts, please include them in your letter allocation and if they are removed, we'll ignore their allocated letter.

Good luck everyone!

Yeah, I knew what you were going for Chan, but since you'd already been shot down I couldn't resist throwing in my comment. I'm looking forward to the time change too, but not so much for the extra hour of sleep. I just live far enough north that I'm taking my dog out in the morning in the dark, and it's not like I get up crazy early...this morning it was almost 8:00 before it was getting reasonably light. I generally dread the time change (in either direction), and I'm not looking forward to getting my internal clock reset, but it will be nice to have it light a little earlier in the mornings!

SandyL | 584 comments If a player is going to use Option #2, does that mean they don't need to worry about using a letter in Candyland?

message 249: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new)

Jane (PS) | 24522 comments SandyL wrote: "If a player is going to use Option #2, does that mean they don't need to worry about using a letter in Candyland?"

Yes. I hadn't thought of that, but just leave them off the spell task :)

message 250: by Becky (new)

Becky (fibrobabe) | 1575 comments Just to confirm, we can drop A, An, or The at the front of the title, correct? So for example, The Candyland Chronicles would count for the C.
