Jmaster Hey, I'm kind of new to goodreads, but judging by your reviews and spirit about Fair and Tender Ladies, I was wondering if someone could help me with an assignment I have. My task is to come up with five songs related to this book. My mind went blank when it came to this book, however. Can anyone help me?

Jmaster I've thought of Rocky Top so far. I know it doesn't refer to the Appalachian Mts, but one's love for his mountain home is referred to in the song, which easily relates to Ivy's love for Sugar Fork. Can anyone help me think of any others?

Ilze How about this song: Love me tender, love me true ... ? - a play both on the title and the lyrics of the song.

Jmaster Thats a possibilty. Thanks! Anyone else have any ideas?

Carolyn I just retuned the book to the library, but here are some suggestions from my "Rise Up Singing" songbook:
GREEN ROLLIN' HILLS (chorus)
O the green rolling hills of West Virginia
Are the nearest thing to heaven that I know
Tho' the times are hard & drear & I cannot linger here
They will keep me and never let me go

The L & N DON'T STOP HERE ANY MORE

SIXTEEN TONS

MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW

MY HOME'S ACROSS THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS

PARADISE (chorus)
And Daddy won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay?
Well I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mr. Peabody's coal train has hauled it away.

S Suzanne Dolly Parton sings a song called fair and tender ladies - maybe she wrote, maybe traditional - a t least it sounds traditional.
