The reason we do not change covers is that readers want to catalog the edition they read or have, and that often includes ones with older covers. If you provide the images, a librarian can create alternate editions.

This makes no sense to me, that I need to ask your permission to chang..."Goodreads doesn't allow this because they don't want new covers to replace the old ones all the time. This is because users like to shelve the book covers they own, and may not want the cover to change. Goodreads librarians can and will, however, add an alternate cover edition for your book, so the readers can choose which cover they want to shelve. Link your new book cover from amazon and I or somebody else will happily add a new cover edition for your book. You as the author have the ability to set the default cover that people see when they first arrive on your book's page. Librarians do not have this authority, though.
Goodreads policy is to keep all published covers on the site, as users want to shelve the cover of the copy they have. Instead, we add an alternate-cover edition. See http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1... and http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/85....
As the author, you will have the ability to change which edition of the book is the default, which will come up in searches by title and show on your author profile. Here's how: https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...
