Weekly Tête-à-Tête #4

Which character do you relate to the most? It can be because of their situation in life, their drive, their personality - any reason what-so-ever! If it's too hard to pinpoint one character (or any) you can also share which character you admire the most.

There is a character in Lilith Saintcrow's Watcher series that reminds me a little of myself. Her name is Elise - which immediately grabbed my attention because it's my middle name. Name aside she's still the character I can relate to the most. She is a fire witch and as such has a hot temper when she gets set off. My temper doesn't have as quick of a fuse as hers does - but once I get pissed...BOOM! She is also a completely loyal friend and takes danger on herself to keep her friends safe.

Cathy (cathygreytfriend) | 20 comments The first I thought of is Laurell K. Hamilton's Merry Gentry. She ran from the princess gig, just wanted a quiet, safe life. When things changed, she embraced the genuine love she found and rejects the users and destroyers. She's strong and brave, more so than me, and she is also kind. She can be ruthless, but it's because she's fighting to protect her men and her guards and her life. Loyalty is everything to her and I really respect her prioritors.

I also thought of Mercy from Patricia Briggs books. She just wants to do her job, hang out with friends, and keep her nose clean. And when that doesn't work, she'll do whatever it takes to protect herself and her friends. She's tough on the outside, but hides a soft side. She has a similar quality to Merry in that both judge people on their actions, not looks or who they know, or what kind of creature they are. She feels like a woman I'd like to be friends with.

Literary Ames {Against GR Censorship} (amyorames) | 77 comments ELENA MICHAELS from Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. She's strong, funny and isn't immune to fear.

I also like Laurell K Hamilton's ANITA BLAKE (pre-porn) because she won't make anyone do what she isn't willing to do herself and she fiercely protects those she cares about or is responsible for. She's also willing to sacrifice her humanity in order to keep people safe and can be as ruthless as any man.

Melodie (melodieco) Probably Sookie Stackhouse. I don't really know why, but I've just always felt an affinity with that character. Of course, it could be because I like to fantasize about climbing in the sack with Eric, too!

LOL, ditto! I didn't really like Bill and though I like Sookie I'm not sure if I like her in True Blood.

Julia | 119 comments Jilly Coppercorn from Charles de Lint's Newford books. She's a visual artist, painter, who sees the beauty in the world, and the magic, and has lived through and survived a lot that is neither. She is joyful, has a great sense of humor and fun. I want to grow up to be Jilly and having a beer with her would be great, especially if I can hear Geordie playing his music too!

Tavi from Jim Butcher's Codex Alera books is another great character. Like me, not so much. He lives in a world where everyone has magic at their command-- some have a great deal of it. Tavi has none and learns to compensate in other ways.
