Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) A slow, steady building of tension is what usually gives me a good scare in a story. Atmosphere is very important. It's harder to be scared when the setting is a bright room where everything is clean, new and safe. Now make it a dark room with lots of corners and shadows. Automatically it's a little more scary.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) Well a massive bang is good too. You just have to start building again after the first situation comes to a head.
