Lol cool. My only problem is im not very good at parting with my books so it was quite hard to choose which ones to list on there to be swapped. I managed to find 6 though

Yeah thats a good idea but a voice in the back of my head says you might read that again even if i know i wont. Difficult but i guess if i ever felt like reading one again i could always just find someone that was trading it and swap it for something else

What is this magic you speak of? Or rather, the title is pretty self explanitory...WHERE is this magic you speak of?
Is www.readitswapit.co.uk im not sure if its just for the uk, im assuming so seeing as sending books overseas would not make it worth while but i hear paperback swap is the american version. You just add books on that you no longer want and then you can search for a book you do want and ask for the owner to swap it for one of the book you have listed. You also get requests from other users too. Obviously not everyone accepts because they may not be interested in any of your books but all you have to do is pay to post it, as does the other person, and then you both have a different book

I thought i might be as the postage would be a problem. At least ones in the states there will be more people to swap with. Im struggling getting the books i want because i could only part with rubbish books and no one wants them LOL Ive swapped one so far

One's better then none! Do you have a dollar-a-book there? I'm lucky yo have one around the corner and they always have a great selection! I just have to be very patient and look because there's no order to it and they don't have air conditioning...sadly. BUT IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT!
No! I would love a bookshop where the books were a pound!! Obv not a dollar as im in england lol I would put up with searching in a hot place too if it was that cheap :)

No one has yard sales near me. Occasionally a carboot sale will be arranged somewhere but its usually just full of random crap that no one ever buys and they just stand there freezing all day. I think the only other place near me i could get cheap books is a charity shop but i have never looked in there to see what they have

Are you serious?!?! Those places are gold mines! I found every work by Wally Lamb at a Goodwill and the entire Harry Potter series, which I bought for my godson. You should stop in! I also found a really old, delicate set of china and only paid around twenty bucks for the whole set! I also love second hand shops. That's where I find all my vintage dresses, hats and purses. There's a place called Crossroads where you take clothes you don't want and, so long as they accept them, you can use them as a credit towards your next purchase. I love second hand shops more then shopping in malls because everything you find is unique and it would be highly unlikely to go out and see someone wearing the same dress. Give it a go Jo!

We dont have second hand shops. Theres a charity shop in town but its full of old lady clothes (for lack of a better description). I might go in to see what books they have.

Jessica...I too get books at a Thrift shop...I got the nice big paperback of Pillars of the Earth for 75 cents!

My buck a book store closed...:( So now I am completely reliant on paperbackreads.com
My only complaint is that they don't always have the book I want. The wait list can be weeks and even months on a lot of the new ones...grrrrrrrrr.

I am on it and I am known as Nutty_mum_303 on there incase your wondering who I am lol x

Exactly! Your junk is another person's treasure. Besides, one does get to the point where there isn't room for more books; there just isn't space for bookshelves & the boxes begin to form a maze. Or you have to move. Or your SO proclaims, "It's me or the books!" (Very tough decision, that. "You know I love you, dear, but these are my books you're talking about...")
It's a horrible chore, but occasionally the book collection must be pruned. And, like the junk you get rid of when you move, you will always regret something . At least, I always have.

I suppose you're right. I helped my dad sort out his book collection about a year ago and we ended up giving away like 300-400 books to a charity shop, and he still had near on 1,000 books that he kept!!!
Maybe I take after him in that respect... even if I know I won't read, watch or listen to something again, I still want to keep it.

Lol thanks! I would go see if you have any books i might want to swap but i have no books listed on there at the moment. I find it hard to part with books and i guess i have just had a lack of books i would be willing to trade!

I have never heard of bookmooch! I will check that out now! Thanks for the tip!
My Aunt uses PaperBackSwap. I just signed up for it. As soon as I get home I will have to add my 10 books so that I can start receiving books! :)

Danger, Will Robinson! Danger! Set your Bookmooch account to "Ask first" for International! You get 3 times the points for sending out of the country, often a great deal, but you can get burned. I've sent the same size books all over & the pricing varies widely.
Japan - $5
Most of Europe - $6-7
Canada & South Africa - $8
Phillipines or Australia - $15 - $20
Since folks in other countries can have a tough time getting some, I'll go up to $12 to ship a book out of the country. I reuse packaging which helps keep the costs down.
Also, BookMooch doesn't have minimum standards like PBS does, so read the persons profile AND the notes in with the book. For instance, I smoke & have pets, so my profile says so & folks can see that before mooching the book. I don't put that note in with each book, an accepted practice, so watch out if you're fussy about such things. It's buyer beware there. I've seen books that had half the front cover ripped off.

whoa, people actually hurt other peoples books..*shakes head* what is the world coming to..loll

I checked out the site and joined. I have had great results with PBS so I am looking forward to trying this out. I like the heads up idea when you have a slightly damaged book. Personally, I don't mind damage to a book or spine so lost as the pages aren't loose/missing or torn. The cover doesn't matter to me. I am glad I joined because I have friends in Australia that have a really hard time coming by certain books (second hand) so I encouraged them to join. Who knows if they will but I think it's a fantastic idea! Thank you for the tip! I have listed my books and I've already received a request! I like that I get more points for sending Internationally. How smart! With Goodreads you only get one point but then it is only nationwide. Still, I sent out an old copy of Atlast Shrugged (because I bought a nice large print version about eight years ago) and forgot I had this copy but when I shipped it out it cost a small fortune because it weighed so much! :( Looking forward to using this site! Thanks again!

Glad you're aware of the International rates. I got lucky. I don't really understand why it costs so much to ship to that area of the world, but it's a staggering difference. I guess it's the amount of other trade.
