Krista | 148 comments I can only really remember one image/scene from this book, where at the end of a quest, a young woman and an older man who have been traveling together reach their destination, and he assumes that she will leave him (and maybe go off with a younger man who is also there??). But she tells him she loves him and wants to be with him, despite his protests that he's too old for her, and she takes his hand. I think the woman was blonde and the man had an injury, possibly a limp. I feel like they weren't the main characters of the story, just side characters, but that might not be true. And I also have a sense that this was a fantasy/quest/adventure book, but no real idea what it was about. I would have read it in the last 5-10 years, though it could be older. Maybe it would be something by Robin McKinley or Tamora Pierce, or one of Cynthia Voigt's Kingdom books; the story style seems in line with those. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Aerulan | 1190 comments Perhaps Beguilement, or one of the other two books in the trilogy? From what I recall they get together in the first book and then the other two are more about what happens after that.

There's also Cazaril and Beatriz who might fit, from The Curse of Chalion though this is another trilogy and them getting together happens at the very end so it may not fit afterall, unless you read books out of order.

Krista | 148 comments No, unfortunately I haven't read either of those.

Michele | 47 comments Possibly the Darwath trilogy by Barbara Hambly first book was The Time of the Dark. There was quite an age gap betwen Gill and Ingold.

Krista | 148 comments Not that either, I'm afraid, but thanks anyway!

Arielle Masters | 252 comments Could it be Stephen R. Donaldson's The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant? The protagonist is a leper who rapes a teen near the beginning (he thinks she's not real and it's in his head). Pretty sure there was more of a romance later. I've read the series two or three times, but it's been many years since the most recent; don't remember the details.

Krista | 148 comments I don't think it's either of those. I'm leaning more toward it being YA since that's mostly what I read. I think I remember a scene where the main character comes into a room and the girl is angry because the guy has told her that they can't be together, and he says something about not letting her throw her life away to care for a sick old man and she's basically like, "Try to stop me." But I might be mixing up multiple books in my head.

Kristina (casdena) | 64 comments Maybe The Immortals Quartet by Tamora Pierce? The first book is Wild Magic

message 10: by Krista (new)

Krista | 148 comments Possibly? I definitely have read the Immortals books, but I don't remember there being as much resistance from Numair, or him being injured. I'm sure that in the book I'm thinking of, the girl had to kind of convince the guy that they should be together.

M. Lee (leevee) | 78 comments Maybe Fire & Hemlock, by Diana Wynne Jones? http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/36...

Rosa (rosaiglarsh) | 4999 comments Fire and Hemlock for M. Lee's suggestion.

Elias (iamnotthrowingawaymyshot) | 78 comments Is it The Naming? Maerad isn't blonde but Cadvan gets injured a few times and there's a younger man as well (Dernhil).

message 14: by Krista (new)

Krista | 148 comments I don't think it's either of those, but thank you!

message 15: by Aimee-Leah (new)

Aimee-Leah | 1 comments This does sound very much like Tamora Pierce's Immortals and a scene that takes place in the last book. If I recall correctly Numair is rather concerned about their age gap and needs to be talked into a proper relationship. While both characters are tired, Daine is the more injured of the two.

message 16: by Krista (new)

Krista | 148 comments It does seem like the most likely answer. I'll have to get my hands on a copy and find that scene to be sure.

Ky | 126 comments It's possible that this could be from the first book in the Cloudmages series Holder of Lightning by S.L. Farrell. Jenna and Ennis travel together and at one point, he tells her he's too old and strange for her.

Krista | 148 comments Thank you all! I don't think it's Holder of Lightning, or any of Amber's authors.

message 24: by Rainbowheart (new)

Rainbowheart | 16278 comments Wasn't there also a big age difference in the Alanna series?

message 25: by Krista (new)

Krista | 148 comments I'm pretty sure it's not the Alanna series. In my memory it had a very old-timey fairy-tale vibe, which is why I thought of Robin McKinley, and the more I think of it, I don't know that Tamora Pierce is what I'm looking for.

Definitely still searching though!
