I really enjoyed hearing his interview. He states he got the idea for the novel from traveling so much and constantly seeing the same type of people in hotels. It's a very unique idea.

He also stated he wanted to set it in early 20th century so it's a time period people can relate to but not remember.

I read an article saying where the inspiration of the novel came from. Apparently he wanted to make Nina like Eloise. I think he achieved that goal.
