It's time to nominate for August's Book of the Month! Seems weird to say that, but it's true!

If you have never nominated before, please look at the full guidelines: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...!

PLEASE REVIEW THESE GUIDELINES:
-Please do not nominate a book we've already read as a group, especially not one we've done in the last 2 - 3 years. You will be asked for a different nomination if you do. Find our shelves here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books....
-Remember that a book must be out for 6 months or more to be eligible for nominations and voting
-Try not to nominate an author that we've read that year already
-If it is a book in a series that is not the first book, make sure you know that it can be read as a standalone and doesn't require the previous books being read to understand and enjoy.
-Please note that there may be more reasons that a book is not a good fit for nominations or group members as a whole, whether it be availability, cost, accessibility, etc. The moderators reserve the right to make these decision. Thank you for your understanding! :)
-Nominations will be open through June 15.

Nominations as of June 6:
1. More Than a Promise by Ruth Logan Herne
2. Fading Starlight by Kathryn Cushman
3. A Promise to Love by Serena B. Miller
4. In the Shadow of Denali by Tracie Peterson
5. Close to You by Kara Isaac
6. Crescent Tides by J. Aaron Gruben
7. God's Daughter by Heather Day Gilbert
8. A Noble Groom by Jody Hedlund
9. A Lasting Impression by Tamera Alexander
10. Shine Like the Dawn by Carrie Turansky

That one's in my tbr list too, Hannah! We're not making the choosing easy, are we? :) In fact, I nearly nominated that one.

I think you'll like her work. I've read a couple of hers and really enjoyed them. She writes deep stories that tug at your heart, and they stick with you. Very emotional, good stuff. My favorite so far is Finding Me by Kathryn Cushman , and it was one of my top favorites from last year.

Just double-checking as this is a new to me title/author - it's Christian fiction?

This is Christian Fiction. I just finished reading it, it was very good. It was basically what the world could have been like it the Turks would have won some of the major battles in the 1600s instead of the Holy League.

It was very good, I normally don't read novels set in this time period, but I enjoyed this very much.

Lol! I have the same problem, it just so many books out there. But I really like Kara Isaac writing, after I Can't Help Falling I was a fan.

I'm reading book one right now. Can book two (A Noble Groom) stand alone?

message 24: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 945 comments Yes, Noble Groom stands alone. This series doesn't have overlapping characters, apparently.

I will be moved early in August. I have already discovered that the new library I will use does NOT have near the books that the one I use now does. So I voted for the one of the three they had that I thought I would like best.

Good thinking ahead, Loraine! Hopefully they will be good about inter-library loan for other books you may want to read.

Beth, I had the same thought about the ILL for Loraine's new library! Great minds must reside on the same wavelength, I think.

Beth and Andrea - I am sure I will be using ILL A LOT!!! The one good thing is that they have a bookmobile and it makes a stop at our senior independent apartment homes. So I won't even have to make library runs LOL:)

message 46: by Chantel (new)

Chantel (channylee07) | 357 comments Whaaat? They have a service that brings the library to you?! That's awesome!! :-)

message 48: by Christine (new)

Christine | 455 comments That is really cool! I didn't realize they still had those (of course I'm sure it depends on what part of the country you live in, etc.). When I was a kid, one came to our school and I loved it!

Loraine, I don't know what I would do with ILLs! I live in a small town without a whole lot of Christian fiction. Good luck with your move and all the work that goes with it!

message 49: by Loraine, CFD Momma (new)

Loraine (librarydiva) | 3035 comments Mod
Thanks Christine; right now I am somewhere between exhausted and wiped out LOL:) I think I will be using ILL's even more than I did where we live now. I grew up in a small town and we had a bookmobile that stopped at the corner our house was on. I didn't even know that any towns still had bookmobiles; but when we went to look at this senior living community, that was one of the features they told us about.

message 50: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn V | 224 comments not sure what ILL is? You almost have the exhausting work done and can count the days until you have a new venutre in your lives. The senior complex sounds nice. I'm so sad we just moved my parents from theirs; and that is far harder because now, it's nursing home or family care 24/7. Since, you have a book mobile; it should be able to deliver books you order from the online source which usually covers so many more libraries to borrow from. Good luck dear; and look at is a whole additional community to live with now; all in your age range.
