Wuthering Heights - PRE-READ
Finished first five chapters. The confusing characters seem to enjoy being wicked and difficult. The narrations from multiple sources gives a sense of unrest. Bronte seems to warn readers of coming violent, stormy weather in character development and setting. I'm mystified so far!
Carol, that's exactly how I felt when starting this book! I will finish today or tomorrow and post in the spoiler section.
Gosh, I haven't even got around starting to read this one, and there's people who've already finished? I'm so behind at the moment (with life in general, not just reading), that I'll be lucky to be able to start reading next wednesday...
Don't worry, I'm usually always behind if I read both books in the month. I'm not going to get to Wuthering Heights until next week probably and you can always post late to the discussion if you finish the month after too :)
I won't be starting this one until next week either. I started with Book Thief and am about 1/3 of the way through.
To read W.H. in the summer, you will not find it a cooling, refreshing read, but more a heated read as hot as the sun blaring down upon you. Don't expect pure happiness from the characters. You will be faced with a stormy atmosphere from page to page. So why am I enjoying this read?
next month I think I'll read the classic first. I just finished The Book Thief and I'm having trouble with the way it is written and the vocabulary, it makes for a slow read. But, curiosity gets the better of me because I want to find out the family secrets...
Watched the classic 1939 film of this, when young, staring Laurence Olivier and read the book some years back now. Recall the tense atmospheric ambience with brooding characters miserably wreaking havoc with each other's emotions. Such darkly portrayals of 'romantic' overtones.. just downloaded it onto my kindle. Wonder how I will perceive such ideas now, from a grown up's perspective reading it..
Hey all. This a long-shot but I ended up totally missing this discussion and was so excited for it too. Would anyone like to do a buddy read discussion of it in November? I don't think it's going to make the catch-up list this time around.Let me know please and thank you!

There is something that compels me to want to revisit the train wreck that is Heathcliff. He is a char I love to hate.
Welcome Readers! This is the April 2019 bookshelf catch-up selection. It is the second time it has been featured as a BOTM. Enjoy! And please remember to leave the spoilers for the SPOILERS thread.
Im so looking forward to reading this book! It has been one of those “Everyone has read this (or at least watched the movie) but me” books for me. So here goes...I wonder which side of the love or hate I will fall on. Fingers crossed 🤞
Can’t wait to read this one. Another classic I haven’t read found a paperback but no decent hardcover at my book store I will look online...does anyone of suggestions of a good edition the have found?

It was the Barnes & Noble Collectors Edition and leather bound. Not hard cover but not paper either. It was only $10. https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/barn...
Hope this helps.
This doesn’t help on the hard copy side, but Wuthering Heights is in the public domain. It is available for free online. Here’s a couple options:Project Gutenberg: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/768
Free Audio on Librovox: https://librivox.org/search?q=Wutheri...
- looking at the audio versions, and I would suspect version 2 or 3 would be the better options.

That site is awesome! Thanks for sharing!!
I have heard this book mentioned variously throughout my life but have never read it or even knew what it was about. I am excited to finally read it and see what it is all about. I was able to find a free ebook of Wuthering Heights on Amazon Kindle, so I can easily read it wherever I'm at.
I'm starting this today. I have never ready any of the Bronte's. I can't wait to see if I'm a lover or a haterAlso, I read through last time's discussion and that Little Free Library thing is awesome! There are several around me so I'll check those out
I bought the Clothbound version of quite a few classics, and recently thought it's a good idea to read them, not just have them on display, so when I saw that it was BOTM a year later I had to give it a go :)
This is the April 2020 Catch-Up group read! Don't forget that this is the spoiler-free thread. If you want to talk in detail, come over here. Will you tag along for the wild and windy ride? Is it a book you studied at school? What are your impressions of this story from other cultural references?
This book is the opposite of Pride and Prejudice, so don't go in expecting a sweet romance. It's awesomely crazy.

I somehow managed to not be assigned to read this like many other classes in school. It is a text that I’ve often heard referenced, so I’m glad to finally be diving in. I too sometimes enjoy a darker theme in a classic. Excited to see where the story goes.
I read this as a teenager and remember loving it. When I think of Wuthering now I recall the sound of whistling winds and the melancholy pang of raging passions. I remember going into this thinking it was a love story and so that somewhat skewed my initial perceptions. Very interested to see how I will feel about this now and if the passage of time will have altered my feelings about this one.
And I want to hear those whistling winds and feel those melancholy pangs, so I'm going to give it another go. Even though I couldn't get through it the last time I tried...
I LOVE this book. It’s one of my all-time faves. I hope u all enjoy it. I’ve read it a couple of times already so won’t be reading along but I’ll join in the spoilers discussion.
When I first read this book, I really disliked it. But I've been thinking of giving it a second chance for a while now.
I finally started to read the book today and I immediately got hooked! Such dreadful people - seems promising so far!
I was not planning to pick it up, but then I heard about how audible made some audiobooks free because of the coronavirus and Wuthering Heights is available for free listening, that too narrated by Michael Kitchen! Needless to say, I will be joining you for this book. There are more books too, its a treasure trove, I highly recommend it!

A bit late in the challenge, but started re-reading this today! When I first found this book, it was on my english literature summer list at school, so I guess it’s time to bring it back to life ;)
I'm about 60% through it and finding myself looking forward to finishing another chapter (shock horror)!
I'm on Chapter 4. I kind of do not like it at all and I am finding it very hard to get committed to.
I have just finished reading this wonderful novel and am so pleased to have gone through it. Ellen is partly to blame for the twists in the narrative for she had her hand in everything that went on. It is entirely Isabella’s fault for going after mad Heathcliff and she ignored all warning from Catherine. The audio version is great to listen to.

Read a Norwegian translation about 8 years ago and had a short hag up on Kate Bush's song after :) I will try an English audiobook this time.
I think I liked it, but I don't really recall much of it other than that I didn't like any of the characters particularly well. I'm expecting to feel the same now :)
Like many of you have mentioned, I too have never read this book before, but I figured I would give it a shot since it’s a classic and all! Getting a head start on it now so that I can be sure to be done with it at the end of November. Cheers! And happy reading!
never read this, but its sitting on my mums shelf so it's convenient to me. I understand its abit pseduo-gothic, which appeals to me. And its a classic on all the reading lists so why the hell not!
I also McVey read this but it's supposed to be Gothic which I think I like, but the romance I've heard of scares me.However, what really convinced me to read it was Kate Bush's song because even though I don't like the song itself so much it struck me.
I’ve had this book on my shelf for ages and haven’t read it. I’m definitely going to give it a read now
This begins our 5th group read of this classic story, nominated by Lina. It's our most re-read book of all! Who will be joining? Why do you think it remains such a popular one?
