MJ | 1322 comments That is completely not my thing... but does sound very interesting.

You might get more looks if you change your title to read the details. We are all looking for books here, so it's good to be able to tell one thread from another.

Odds are this isn't your type of book, but The Ancient Future series by Traci Harding has a modern chick who is high level martial arts getting sucked back in time and teaching the knights how to kick ass. It's more fantasy and romance than war oriented tho.

Possibly it isn't exactly fantasy but maybe.

Please add plot details (and genre) to your topic header using the edit link on the full desktop, not mobile, website. This will help people searching for books. Just ask if you'd like assistance with this.

Rachel Sinclair Not a fantasy world, but 1632 by Eric flint is about a modern town, including hunters and soldiers, which gets thrown back to Thirty Years War in 1632.

Michele | 2358 comments Richard, do you recall how they got into the past? For example, they were out on patrol and went into a cave, or they went camping together and woke up in the past, or they walked down an alley in Detroit and found themselves there, or out turns out someone summoned them to fight for th e kinq/queen, or...? Would you say this was ate book or aimed at adults? Do they have their weapons in the past, or just their knowledge and military expertise?

Michele | 2358 comments Sorry, should be "Would you say this was a YA book or aimed at adults" (smart phone not so smart)

Peter Meilinger | 475 comments Literally any other details would help. When you say "modern" soldiers, what does that mean? World War II, Vietnam, 21st century? When did you read the book? A lot of possible answers are likely to be recent, so if you read it in the 90s we can eliminate them immediately.

All that said, my guess is The Doomfarers of Coramonde by Brian Daley. One of the main characters is the leader of an Armored Personnel Carrier in the Vietnam War. He and his men are summoned to a fantasy world to fight a dragon, and he elects to come back to the fantasy world and make his life there.

The Doomfarers of Coramonde since you said fantasy world. This one is set in the Vietnam War era and meets your "modern soldiers" and "medieval fantasy world".

Remember reading at blur a TOR about a group of modern day soldiers with guns stuck in another dimension with a medieval fantasy setting. So, not in the past. By portal.
