May's purring stumbled to a stop when she listened to Kai. He seemed pretty worried. There was a lot to think about. Like the fact that after one month after meeting their mate, the female was pregnant. And that was normal! Rosario had calmed most of these negative thoughts, and she felt like she had to do the same comfort him. Reassure him. He would do the same the cat urged her. It was funny, she barely knew him, and yet she was so sure of this. Maya squeezed his hand, and leaned against him when his mother pulled away, feeling that always-welcome tingling sensation. Looking up at him, a small smile tugged on her lips, knowing that he would most likely be unable to resist "that sounds like it will work. And think. If it does..... You're stuck with me" she added jokingly "don't think about the negatives. You'll worry yourself to death, like I was a few minutes ago before your mom showed up"

It was rather calming to have a mate just holding your hand and keeping you together. Kai felt very nervous about it all. It was asking to ruin his reputation as an alpha. Getting kicked from that rank was worse than being a rogue. Rosario knew how stressed Kai could get and Maya was doing a good job of no letting him reach his limit. "How sweet that you worried about meeting me! You have nothing to fear sweetheart. Now I better get back to take care of your father. Such a needy man."' With that she waved goodbye and took her leave. Kai stared at Maya and took a deep breath, drawing in a lot of her scent. "Thanks for calming me. You're already a pretty good mate. I got pretty lucky, huh." Kai pinched her nose and wiggled in the went and laid on the couch. There wasn't a television just a radio. Rubbing his face he tried to get over seeing his father. "Maya, if my father says no, I don't know what to do. I'm not trying to be weird, but if I don't have you near, I feel like my heart will explode at any moment. It's painful and only you can heal it. " Kai smiled at her from his spot on the couch.
When Rosario left, Maya turned her attention to Kai. The compliment made her blush. Her cat purred when her called her his mate. They both liked it. It made it more real. It was still a little hard to believe. After all, it all started only yesterday. Her nose scrunched up and she let out a startled little mrow when he pinched her nose, bringing her back to reality. It was like a squeakytoy. Shaking her head, she followed him to the couch and raised an eyebrow. On the inside she was praising the sight of him. Her cat wanted her to appreciate every feature, from the messy hair all the way down to the pajama bottoms he was wearing. Maya completely ignored that and practically laid down on top of him, resting her hands against his chest. Cats knew no boundaries, so neither did she. But God did it feel amazing. She ducked her head beneath his chin, making herself at home entirely, and breathed in deeply "well we wouldn't want that, would we???" she purred, both literally and figuratively. "no more talk about your father. At least until after. You'll just worry to much and make it worse than it already is. I know because I do the same thing. Mkay??"
She was so calm about everything and though Maya told him to stop worrying, the anxiety still sat deep within his stomach over his father. However, with his mate laying on top of him, purring loudly, Kai was easily distracted. He laughed at her cat persona and hugged his arms around her. "So leonita...what do you plan to do today? As much as I'd love to just lay here, I have many Alpha duties." The wolf ran his fingers through her hair over and over. He removed any tangles that were present. "So before I go, want to let our animalistic sides meet? We did yesterday but I was in Alpha mode at the time." Kai growled playfully then squirmed out from under her and shifted into his wolf form. Quietly, he growled and barked wanting Maya to play. The giant wolf laid his big head on her lap and nuzzled her. Kai bounced around and got into a playful bow position.
Maya shifted and stretched almost leisurely on the couch, claws sinking into the cushions and Jaws cracking open into a huge yawn. She liked this idea. Jumping down from the couch, the big cat stalked up to him and awkwardly lowered herself into that playful bow, tail lashing. She let out a sound that could have passed for a laugh and crouched instead, feeling ridiculous. This was the first time she played with someone as a cat. It felt weird, and the cat inside urged her to loosen up and have fun. Purring, Maya darted started to bat at his head with a paw playfully and bounced away again before he could react, growling and showing teheth. Crouching again, she flicked her tail and chirped at him the same way a cat chirps to lure in prey. It was all for fun of course.
Kai also felt weird about playing with a huge cat. It was definitely different, especially as she batted at his head. The wolf couldn't quite do that, so instead he chased after her, nipping here and there at her fur. She was graceful and he was bumping into everything. The wolf growled and jumped up on a chair then tackled Maya to the ground. When they fell with a thud, he started to worry the he had hurt her. Kai's ears tipped back and a whine left his muzzle. Nudging the mountain lion, he was trying to check on her. If I hurt her, I will never be able to forgive myself. He thought while trying to comfort Maya. The wolf got up and sat down awaiting for the cat to move and show she was fine.
Maya wasnt hurt though. If a cat can literally jump 15 feet in the air, then it can afford to fall 15 feet. None of it did. Not even the nipping. The nipping just gave her a little incentive to keep out of reach, whack in him with a tail 1/3 rd the length of her body. No Maya wasn't hurt, she was just momentarily surprised because she was leaping over the couch when she got body slammed out of nowhere. It was just an opportunity. When Kai was checking on her, she was playing dead with her back to him to lure him in. The act was up because the damn purring started up again when he tried to comfort her. The cat nimbly turned around before her cover was broken and wrapped Kai in powerful forearms specifically made for catching and holding prey. Purring again, Maya began to attack him with a tough sandpapery tongue, licking at his face
It was such a relief to know that she wasn't hurt. He had been concerned mostly about her foot and whether he made the wound worse. As the but cat arms wrapped around his neck, he felt a big tongue lick at his fur. It was odd, having a feline for a mate. The wolf snickered at her loud purring and knew, that he'd never tire of it. Kai licked her forehead as Maya licked on him, both species grooming one another. In the midst of grooming, Kai shifted back into his human form and ran his hands across Maya's ears just stroking her fur. "I think I like cats more now cause of you, leonita." He chuckled and examined her large features. Mays's paws were huge. Her tail was huge. And her muzzle was huge. The Alpha hummed happily at the sight of his mate though and once this was all over, he'd be happy with her forever.
Maya purred louder and muzzled against his face, really enjoying it when he stroked her fur. Unlike Kai, once she was comfy, she could stay that way until hell freezes over. She had her mate in her arms- well paws- and the floor was comfy. But in all honesty, that didn't really mean anything. She could find concrete comfy. Her mind kept focusing on the fact that Kai would soon leave to do his alpha duties. She didn't want him to leave. The cat would be stuck by herself in the house that seemed to get smaller just by thinking about it. Her grip tightened on him and pulled him against her, just about smothering him with her fur and trying to make him understand her displeasure at him leaving. Maya had no idea how to talk to him like he did to her that first day they met. She lowered her forehead against his and animalistic eyes stared into human ones. Most people in that position would be terrified, but then again, this wasn't a typical situation. In fact, most people weren't werewolves, nor would the mountain lion be in love with them
Kai didn't want to leave her in the house by herself, but he had talk to his father and it would probably end very badly and last thing he needed was his mate in the middle of the mess. When she lowered her forehead against his own, the Alpha smiled and closed his eyes. "You seem to not want me to leave. I don't want to leave either, but soon it won't have to be that way." The Alpha placed both hands on her fluffy cheeks then kissed her forehead. This was going to be had to get her to get up. "I thought mountain lions were solitary animals and yet I ended up with the clingiest but the prettiest one." Kai was teasing of course while attempting to push her off. It seemed like he was putting all his strength into it and not a single muscle gave in. Not only was his mate beautiful but bull headed as well. Eventually Kai gave up and fell backwards. "Por favor, leonita?" He asked her to please get up.
That forehead kiss did nothing to help his case. Maya growled, her tail lashing. Not at him of course, but at the thought of what could happen at the meeting with his father. She wanted him to stay here and be safe.... Though come to think of it, it really wasn't safe here either. All it took was one of Kai's packmatesto to investigate why he was coming over to the emergency housing so much. Best just let him go and get on with it so Maya wouldn't be practically trapped inside. A single mountain lion alone could have a territory from ten square miles to 370 square miles. She had a feeling that it wouldn't be much longer before she went crazy. So maya released Kai, but not before a large amounts of heaving sighs and other similar noises. She shifted back into her her other form and sat up, grabbing his hand and kissing g the back of it "for good luck"
He knew that being cooped up was no fun but if she crossed over the border again, they would smell her. Kai had his best trackers and guards on patrol. "I will come right afterwards and depending on his answer, we'll either be running around the pack territory or we will be leaving it." Kai watched as she threw a small tantrum and once she let him up, he smiled at Maya. Her lips pressed against the back of his hand but the moment she looked up, his own were pressed against hers. "Like you said before, it'll be fine." With that he got up, and locked the door on his way out. Unfortunately Kai didn't believe in his own words. His father would probably say no and then it would just be a yelling match. Just thinking about it hurt his head.(That was really bad.)
((I don't think it was)) When he kissed her, Maya had to resist the urge to keep him from leaving again. And yet, she let him walk out that door. The silence fell the I Stanton that lock clicked. It was the type of silence that was so quiet your ears buzz. Growling, she stood up and started to pace like a caged animal. Which she was technically. It just made it all the more enraging. She collapsed on the couch, time literally just dragging. Last time she was alone was different because she slept the entire time, and Kai was there in the morning. Now she was restless because of the unseen future, unable to sleep. It was going to be a long night
It didn't take long for Kai to be standing in front of his father. The new alpha stared in the eyes of the old alpha. Kai's mother was sitting next to her mate while smiling encouragingly at her son. "Yes, Kai? What is it that you need?" The young wolf felt very unsure about discussing this subject but it has to be done. "Well, Dad, I met my mate. She's...everything I could want." A smile spread on his lips just thinking about it. Maya was very sweet but he could already tell that she would be opinionated. "Congratulations! Where is she at? Why didn't you bring her hear? The next generation will soon start, it goes by fast Kai." His father was laughing which made Kai feel a little better. Now to spill the beans about it all. "She's not the same as everyone else. She's a shape shifter, but a mountain lion. I know that is weird, but it's true." That is when the yelling began and it was a long and tiring process. Eventually though, Kai was making his way back to Maya with a neutral face. He'd made a deal with his father and it'd be the only option for them.
Maya literally paced almost the entire time he was gone. It was nerve racking, knowing he could come back but not an alpha. He didn't say that could happen, but she knew anyway. Eventually she settled down again, plopping on the couch and trying to take a cat nap. It wasn't working. Not really. Her mind kept trying to convince her that she could hear them yelling. Her hearing was good, but not that good. Her ears kept Perking and twitching, focusing on nothing. The cat was jumping at every small sound. It felt like someone was going to barge into the house at any moment. As if hearing her thoughts, the door unlocked. She sat up, staring in the direction of the door. It was just Kai. She ran up and hugged him tightly "Re you alright???? What happened???" she examined him hurriedly, looking for bruises and scratches. If there was anything, she was going to speak to his father herself. And she wasn't going to be happy
Kai didn't expect to unlock and open the door only to find Maya waiting right there for him. She hugged and analyzed him, looking for damage. "I am fine, Maya. It's okay." He twirled her around then walked with her inside the house. Maybe it was best to sit down for this, therefore, Kai took a seat on the couch. "So father has approved of our mating and allowed for me to keep my Alpha position, but there is one condition that has to be filled." The wolf hesitated saying the next part as he tried to put it gently. "Well, since my children would be the next heirs to the Alpha seat, my father wants it to be a wolf. So...my first child must be one that is completely werewolf." He couldn't help but stare at the ground as he explained the condition. No mate wanted to hear that they were having a child with someone else, and Kai didn't want it to be that way. The werewolf placed his head in his hands and just waited for the mountain lion's rejection.
The mountain lion inside lost it. She didn't want to share. He was hers . No one else's. Maya agreed. She also knew that there would be later consequences from this. Like later down the road, her child wouldnt be alpha, while possibly being treated like a pariah. And Kai would be stuck helping to raise someone else's kid. It was far from OK. Making sure she had careful control as her mountain lion still threw a tantrum, she knelt in front of Kai. Maya wasn't going to reject him though. Instead she set her feelings aside, gently peeled his hands away from his face and wrapped her arms around him. She thought of something reassuring to say. "it might not have to be that way. I mean.... I was born to human parent. And their parents were human. I was just a fuck uo" she said light heartily and rested her head on his shoulder "what I'm saying is, the first might not even be a shapeshifter, and the children might not even be hybrids. I was born human, until I shifted for the first time when I was 5. What I'm also saying is you're mine, and I realllllllyyyyyy don't feel obligated to share" her fingers curled against his back, threatening to turn in to claws at the thought as her mountain lion hissed and snarled mine mine mine
Kai felt her pull his hands from his face and wrap her warm arms around him. It was obvious that Maya hated the condition as much as he did. However he couldn't say a word, just bury his face in her shoulder. His father wasn't going to hear Maya out on her condition unless she could find a werewolf and a shapeshifter who had children and one only shifted to a wolf. Kai knew what his father was worried about. Alpha's born with humans were already seen in the world as weak, but an Alpha born part human and part werewolf who shifted to something other than a wolf would be feared and not in a good way. They could lose allies and make more enemies. Not to mention Kai was a natural born leader and if he were to lose his title...the wolf had no clue what to do. Taking a deep breath Maya's scent filled his nostrils, and he then had to remember it wasn't only his happiness sitting on the line. Maya wasn't afraid to risk their futures as a mated Alpha pair. She wanted what every other mated pair got to have, no conditions. Kai just knew it wouldn't be that easy. There was a heavy air that hung around them and it was one that words probably couldn't fix.
((forgive me I worked all day yesterday D:)) Maya didn't like the heavy silence. It kept bringing negatives thoughts to light. Making a noise, she pulled herself up and wormed her way onto his lap, holding him tightly. There had to be something that could help out with their situation. But until there was a known solution, nothing could be done.... At least jot yet. There was going to be a lot of research and planning, and then there was getting Kai's father to accept it. It was going to all be worth it in the end. Maya would literally give anything to keep Kai to herself. Until then..... Maya kissed him lightly".... Want to go outside???" a distraction would be lovely, at least until they figured out what to do first "I can go outside now, right???????" she figured some fresh air would be excellent for the both of them

Kai was pulled out of his thoughts by Maya's small kiss, "Hmm?" He muttered seeing as he wasn't paying attention but when she said something about outside that was when he understood. The Alpha liked her idea and started to get up. "Yes, we can go outside. No one should bother us and when we are done, I'll take you to the pack house." As Kai walked to open the door, he took in a deep breath of fresh air. It was unbelievable how the sky was already beginning to darken and the air felt cold. It an instant he shifted, turning into his dark black wolf. He gave a small bark toward the mountain lion, trying to call her forth. His ebony body stretched out and then began to trot around. Last thing he needed was to pull a muscle because he didn't warm up. "Leonita?" Kai called from behind him, looking for her lighter colored pelt. This was going to calm him and push his worries away even if it was only for a few minutes. A mate seemed to do that for you at least, push away all the negatives of life in the moment.
She stood in the open Dorr way with him, breathing in the fresh air. A huge grin appeared on her face, and when he shifted, Maya did the same, literally diving out the door and shifting in mid air, landing gracefully on four paws instead of two feet. freedom that voice purred. It felt good to be outside the house and feel grass under her paws instead of carpet. While he stretched she took off running around the house, claws digging into the soil as powerful muscles pushed her forward with amazing speed. Not for long though. The big cat was only built for a bushing prey in short distances. Maya jumped over him when he called for her and settled into that playful bow, eyes bright and tail whipping. It was like a completely different cat/ person in front of him. Growling playfully, the cat jumped forward and nipped at him before jumping back again out of reach. Already there was no thought of their current situation, just excitement. It showed in the way she circled him, trying to goad him into playing
Maya had really wanted out of that place. When she was released, it was like she was a completely different person. "Maya, pace yourself. You don't need to cause your paw more injuries." Even if her wound from the bear trap had healed substantially, it was still good to take things slowly. Kai loved how excited she was though and couldn't help but playfully bound after her. Even though she was large, the mountain lion was quick. However her stamina was what lacked. The black wolf nipped at her long tail and snarled playfully as he chased her. Maybe now she would get worn out while they were playing and would fall asleep easily tonight. Maya was very much like a child when it came to taking care of her. Sure she could get by surviving on her own, but her optimal health included babying her. "Leonita, quit running away and actually come wrestle with me. I'll be gentle." Kai rolled onto his back and wagged himself against the ground. It felt good, the way the grass relieved any itchy spots. The Alpha rolled his tongue out of the side of his mouth and then took in air through his nostrils.
Maya led him on a goose chase, winding around trees and turning sharply on a dime. It felt amazing to feel the wind in her fur and her paws fly over the grass. Kai chasing her just added to this amazing feeling. This was what it was like to have a mate. She ignored him though at first and kept running happily until her stamina started to run low. And it would be a shame to waste it..... Finally taking kai's offer, she pounced on him when he wasn't expecting it and got in his face. Snarling for real to scare him for a second, she stopped to lick his muzzle and nip at him. Panting lightly from the run, she phrred"if you say so", not realizing she actually spoke and that he would understand her. Maya rolled off of him and wagged herself against the ground like he did earlier, purring growing louder and her legs kicking slightly. It felt amazing . Lots of things felt amazing right now at the moment. It was safe to say that Maya was beyond content and happy
Kai groomed at the feline's head when she finally laid down on him. She was so excited to run and that's when the wolf realized that it was probably wrong of him to keep her locked up. When she fell over on her own back to roll around, Kai jumped onto her. His movements calmed down and he tried to slow the crazy feline. "Maya you're going crazy, amor. Just slow down a little bit and enjoy the fresh air." The alpha was one for excitement but taking things slowly and enjoying them was the way to go. He got up and sat down on the ground. Licking at his paws and his chops. Kai watched as Maya just acted carefree and childish. He smiled at her letting his mind slip away from any troubles. Suddenly, a cream colored wolf came bounding out of the forest. At first Kai took a defensive stance to keep Maya protected but soon he realized who it was and laid down with a bored look.
Maya was just..... Happy. Her legs quit peddling as Kai calmed her down and she was left panting softly on her back with this catty smile on her face. The instant she recovered her breath however, the cat was back at it again, though calmer like Kai advised, just exploring and sniffing at flowers and such. He was right. All this stuff would be here tomorrow, and she would be able to go outside when she wanted. It was exciting! She never really had a chance to just let herself go as a lion. Her childhood was rough, and so was her adulthood. She was always hiding. And now she was free. The cat had heaved herself onto the grass next to Kai when the new wolf came bounding out of the the woods. Instantly the playfulness was gone. Her lion took control and took a defensive stance- low to the ground wars flattened and her lips pulled back into a snarl- only to throw it right back to Maya when Kai seemed disinterested. Which raised some questions, and not a lot of answers.She only knew she was confused. Maya butted her head against the dark colored wolf in an attempt to get him to move. When it quickly became obvious that he wasn't going to do, the curious cat bounded over and met the wolf halfway. Cautiously of course curiosity kills the cat after all. But satisfaction brings it back. She prevented the wolf from advancing, toying with it almost like a cat plays with a mouse. Without the violence and the eventual consumption of said mouse. However she was on guard in case the wolf turned out to not be friendly. She doubted it though, going off of Kai's. Who was this new wolf??? Were they a friend??? Enemy?? Eventually she grew bored and bounded to Kai's side again

At first, the cream colored fae looked small because of the distance, but as she approached, it appeared that the little one was nothing more than an adolescent. Kai had no idea why she was out here. He gazed at Maya who had been defensive then curious once the Alpha had stamped his own approval on the wolf. "Kai!!! Mama said to go in the house! Woah! Ummm...Kai!" The little one froze at the sight of the mountain lion. Kai gazed at his little sister then nudged Maya lovingly to show his sibling it was okay. However, the cream wolf was not quite having it. Her tail tucked in between her legs and her ears fell back in fear. "Everything is okay, Rosa. This is my mate, Maya. She's...a mountain lion." Kai spoke softly and then peered at his mate. Unfortunately, this would be her life at first. A lot of his pack members would display fear or anger toward her. It was because she was a rare flower blooming in the wrong place. The dark wolf felt bad for the lioness since that wasn't a reaction you wanted to get from people who were supposed to respect and even love you. Hearing that everything was good, Rosa crept up to Kai. She always kept her brother in between her and the feline. As much as it annoyed Kai that his sister wasn't automatically accepting Maya, he kept his cool and spoke again. "Say 'hi'. Mama will be mad to hear you were rude to your sister-in-mating." With that the pups eyes went wide and she automatically squeaked out an 'hola', which was 'hi' in Spanish.
When Maya saw what Rosa was doing, she went ahead and stepped over Kai, closing the distance. A reassuring purr rumbled and she slunk close to the ground, trying to seem small as possible. She didn't blame the small wolf for being scared. It was natural, she was after all wearing the form of a natural predator. Not to mention an enemy of wolves. And a member of a species thought to be far gone. If Maya was in the same position as this small wolf, she would be scared as well. As for the other pack members being angry and afraid.... Let's say that people felt that way about her throughout her when life. It was sadly normal. The only thing to do now was work it out, one at a time. Starting with this small thing. Her ear twitching at Kai's tone and the way Rosa responded, she twitched her tail in a way that made it lay along his muzzle "be nice" she purred and looked at him over her shoulder before turning her attention back to Rosa. All her movements were slow and calculated to keep Maya from scaring her sister-in-mating. The lion hummed at the thought of having a little sister to take care of. 'yeah, if I can get her to trust me first'. She looked to Kai for help again
As the feline's tail fell over his muzzle, he nipped it playfully then turned his attention to the two. "I am nice, leonita." He walked around to sit right next to his sister. Kai growled happily at his mate as she purred away. That was his favorite sound from her. "You know, Rosa...Maya loves to cuddle. You like to cuddle too." With that he motioned for his mate to come rub against him then rub against Rosa. Upon the feline's touch and purrs, the little wolf giggled. "I do like to snuggle." Rosa said, pushing back some of her fear. Her tongue slowly moved out of her own mouth and brushed it against Mays's pelt. "You're so soft!" The little one looked at Kai in excitement and he nodded. "Yes, Maya is like a cat version of a teddy bear." He felt a bit of jealousy flowing in the back of his mind. Maya was his mate and so he wanted to keep her to himself. The black wolf huffed gently and nudged the mountain lion's rear. "Come. We should get inside before mother throws a fit." With that, Kai shifted back and waiting for the other two before heading toward the house.
Maya purred loudly and rubbed up against Kai, the same way that cats would rub up against humans. Tail high and waving like a very very large house cat (which she technically was), she moved on to the smaller wolf with almost enough force to knock the small thing over. The big cat couldn't help but feel pleased as the wolf giggled at her antics. It made her chuckle herself. It made her feel childish again. Did Kai really think of her as a giant teddy bear???? When Kai nudged her, she looked at him over her shoulder and snickered. Though he didn't show it, Maya could almost feel the jealousy. Nudging Rosa, the cat suddenly stood up on her back legs. Like that, she was taller than Kai because her back legs were longer than her front ones. Shifting, she knelt next to Rosa and started scratching at her sides and behind her ears. Goddamn this little wolf was adorable "finnnnneeeeee" she jumped up and wobbled a little as she started to realize just how tired she was. Her legs and arms alone felt like she went on a long biker idea. Guess she ended up spending more energy than she thought. But it was worth it. Grinning, Maya messed up little Rosa's hair and joined Kai, leaning against him heavily as she walked. It didn't take a genius to see the catwas trying to hide just how worn out she let herself get. But she was happy. Extremely happy, by how loud she was purring.
Kai didn't realize how tired Maya was until she leaned against him. He stopped her and squatted down. "Get on, leonita. I will carry you if you long for such." Once she hopped on he continued to walk with Rosa, straight into the house. It was pretty extravagant inside and it was bustling with people. Of course, the moment they entered, there were people staring and whispering. It didn't take long for Kai's mother to come in and hush everyone up. They all ran out as quickly as they came. Unfortunately for Maya, Kai's father followed closely behind. "Papi!" Rosa cheered before jumping into her dad's arms. The large male dropped his frown as he dropped his gaze upon his little girl. "Hello my little love." Kai took his father's distraction to disappear up the stairs. His room was on the highest floor. The only other rooms up there were his office and a meeting room. "Sorry about him, Maya. He's not completely accepting. This whole pack is a bit stuck in their ways, especially those who ruled under my father." The wolf laid her down on his bed and then combed her hair back, smoothing it out. Maya was definitely a wild child.
Maya wasn't bothered by any of it. Not the whispers, not the stares, none of it. She actually had smiled and waved to a few of the people staring, feeling pleased when the people addressed turned away. It was hard to feel anything else other than pleased with her head resting on her mate's shoulder. Though the cat couldn't help but feel a smidgeon of relief as she was whisked away upstairs. "I don't mind" She purred and grabbed his hand, kissing his palm "I have you" Catching him off guard, she yanked on his hand ad pulled him into the bed with the last little bit of strength she had. She didn't care because he was there. Kai made it all the more better. Curling up against his side, Maya thought for a moment before saying "My parents were the same way. They weren't very.... accepting of what I was. I actually grew up in the foster care system" Saying it like that made it sound like they gave her up, not that she was forcibly removed from their custody. Another jaw cracking yawn "Foster parents were never really accepting either, and they never found out what i was. None of them ever did" Her eyes started to slip closed. The bed was so soft and comfy, and after everything that happened it was hard to stay awake. The last thing she wanted to do was sleep though. Her catlike curiosity was at its peak. There was still so much to see and do
Kai's eyes widened as he was pulled next to Maya in the bed. Her strength always caught him off guard. It seemed with every word that left her mouth, he got a better understanding of her life. It all sounded terribly lonely and now she was moving on the next chapter and people still didn't accept her. "You should sleep, Maya. Quit fighting it." Kai hugged her close and nuzzled their foreheads together. She didn't have to be as lonely anymore, the Alpha was going to take care of her and love her. "Not everyone is going to push you away and with time they will grow to love you boldness and your pride just like I have." It was nice to have a mate. Too many time this bed would get cold at night and while his friends were escorting their mates to bed, he was merely wasting away by himself. Suddenly a knock came on the door and Kai got out of bed and answered it. Once he opened the door, Rosario was on the other side holding a tray. "Rosa said Maya was tired and I know you're avoiding the pack, Kai, but you'll have to start including yourselves at some point. Here is dinner just set it on the floor outside when you are done and I will come get it. Buenos Noches, mijo. Goodnight, Maya." Rosario waved her hand goodbye as Kai took the tray.
Maya couldn't help but wrap her arms around him and breathe in deeply, inhaling his scent when he pulled her close. His words were encouraging and like a lullaby. Growing up, most of the words spoken to and about her were never really nice. Hearing kind words like that wasn't something that happened very often. The cat almost fell asleep immediately, but was woken up by the sharp rap on the door. She bolted upright, only to literally fall back down when she saw it was just Rosario and offered a friendly wave, biting back another yawn. God, she needed to watch how much energy she was using when in her cat form. Today she used way too much. When Kai came back with the food, she looked at it blearily, trying to decide if she was more hungry than tired. "She's right, you know... why don't we join everyone else tomorrow. You know, let me become a member of society " the cat joked and looked at him, rubbing her eyes tiredly and judging his reaction. She knew how much he worried for her safety, but he shouldn't have to keep her away from his pack forever, if that was he worried about. "I'll be fine, promise"
Kai couldn't help but be protective over Maya. He wanted her to feel wanted by other and wanted her to make friends and be cared for. It wasn't going to happen if he didn't let her try but he also was afraid for her to experience hate and discrimination. "Okay. We will sit with the pack tomorrow morning for breakfast. Go ahead and eat. I know you are tired but you used a lot of energy today and it needs to be replenished." The wolf sat the tray on her lap and then physically sat her up. Kai sat behind her so she wouldn't lay back down. The feline was sneaky like that. Resting his forehead on her shoulder, he took in her scent. How could he not be concerned about both her physical and emotional well-being? This was going to be the death of him, worrying about everything that concerned Maya. "Is it good? We have some pretty good cooks in the pack. None are as good as mi Mama but you'll realize that soon." The werewolf combed out his mate's hair with his fingers, being very delicate whenever he reached a tangle.
Maya resisted grumpily at first, acting like a ragdoll as he sat her up. But as he started to run his fingers through her hair, a reluctant purr started up and a smile appeared on her lips. She couldn't stay grumpy with Kai around. Despite her tiredness, she started eating. It has been a while since she had a nice homecooked meal, and mountain lions are opportunistic eaters. Maya quickly ate everything on the plate, occasionally feeding Kai little bits of food over her shoulder. She always had a big appetite and a high metabolism to match. Setting the tray aside, she yawned hugely and stretched. Now full and content, it was getting harder and harder to keep her eyes open. " You need to stop worrying about me before you worry yourself to death.". The cat, true to her nature, leaned back heavily against him "Now it's your turn. I will stay awake until you eat something" She tilted her head back and grinned at him sleepily
A laugh left his lips as she told him to stop worrying so much about her. It was inevitable because she was his one and only mate. There was no second chance.He would never feel the same passion with another like he did with Maya. "With how reckless you have proven yourself to be, I have every right to worry." Once she was finished and demanded that he are as well, the Alpha got up and laid her gently down. "Don't worry, I'm going to eat. I'm about as hungry as you were, but don't fight the sleep anymore Maya. I can tell you're fading fast." With that, Kai gently kissed her lips then proceeded to eat his dinner. Upon finishing he placed the tray outside the door then climbed in the bed, next to Maya. She already had the blankets all warmed up which made him sigh in content. This would be every night from now on. Maya would keep him warm at night and would fill his arms. An arm wrapped around her waist and Kai pulled Maya flush against him. "Goodnight, mate." He whispered quietly before nuzzling his head in his pillow.
"I'm not reckless..... I think." Maya purred sleepily, too tired to actually stop and consider it. The kiss made her heart jump in her chest and her inner lion demanded more..... but later. Her eyes slipped closed with a smile on her lips, not to open again possibly until twilight. That was when her more animalistic side would sometimes wake her up in the early morning hours. It was a pain, and something she always had a problem with when she was a younger child. It would cause her to toss and turn restlessly until she eventually gave up and got out of bed to start her day.. before the sun was even up all the way. It was the reason she was up and ready by the time Kai came over to the emergency house the first time. But tonight was different. She was content and fast asleep in her mate's arms. Maybe she would actually sleep until sunrise like a normal person. When Kai pulled her closer, she stirred only long enough to curl up against his side
In the morning, Kai expected to have empty arms but when his eyes opened, they were full. That was just how he wanted them to be. The werewolf nuzzled his face into Maya's neck and placed a soft kiss on her neck. Other than that, he laid his head back down on the pillows and stared at his mate. If she longed for it, he would let her sleep all day long. Kai untangled himself from Sleeping Beauty and prepared to begin his day. Unfortunately an Alpha couldn't get away with having a free day. Kai showered and dressed then came back to check on Maya. Seeing her made him want to crawl back into bed and waste away. "Aye, leonita. You're so beautiful when you are sleeping." He sat on the edge of the bed and waited to see if Maya would wake. She had wanted to go to breakfast but if she intended on resting, he would go and finish some of his work then come back when she was up and ready to go. Kai was a bit reluctant to show Maya the pack but if that was what she wanted, so be it.
Maya woke up the instant Kai left her side, but didn't open her eyes fully until she felt his weight settle on the bed. For someone who was up almost everyday at twilight, she could be slow to wake. Though Kai being the first thing she saw made it worth it. Seeing him with his wet hair and the way that he gazed at her made a light blush spread across her face and a purr start up. Wonderful way to start the day. A girl can get used to waking up next to someone like everyday. Stretching, the lucky lady flashed a quick smile and tried to fix her fluff ball of a hairdo "Goodmorning love" She said, loving the way it rolled off her tongue. Just saying it made her heart jump. God, what she wouldn't do to just stay in bed with Kai all day......But her lion would never allow it. the feline as spoiled, needing plenty of space and time to herself. That and her stomach was secretly trying to impersonate whale calls. Breakfast sounded amazing at the moment. Speaking of breakfast "I didn't miss breakfast, did I?? I'm not used to waking up and it being daylight outside" Feeling that she stretched enough she got out of bed and started to get ready, making a side note to get more clothes from the emergemcy packhouse.

(Sorry, I never get notifications for this thread even though I turned them on.)Kai smiled at the mountain lion and the way she basically panted over him. "No you didn't miss breakfast. Well not yet at least." The Alpha looked over at his clock, "Mainly you'll see teens down their. A lot of the adults headed off to work." Standing up, he waited for her to get to moving. They were two different species that behaved two different way. Though Kai blamed his lack of being in touch with his more animalistic side on the fact that humans weren't keen on werewolves, it was apparent that Maya was well in touch with her mountain lion. "I believe that you'll grow use to getting up in the morning. Wouldn't be any good if we worked and slept at different times. Then how would I ever be able to hear the most beautiful sound in the world." Even now as he was a few feet away, Kai could hear Maya's purr loud and clear. "Your beautiful purr lulled me right to sleep last night. It was insane." Holding a hand out for his mate, the Alpha was ready to get some food.
Maya did all that she could, not even bothering to shower because she had no clothes to change into. In her excitement to leave the safe house, the feline forgot to grab anything. Returning to his side, she grabbed his hand and stood on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek-a small spark of electrcity. "I will try.. but my lion is finicky, wanting to be up and active the instant the sun starts to rise.... which can be really early." Speaking of finicky, the lion wanted to stick to her more animalistic side and stay elusive and solitary. Maya ignored her urges, as they would not do. This moment was like facing an icy lake- It was better to jump all the way in and get it all over with.It was also the exact same way she solved most of her problems. A catlike grin crossed her lips as her purring grew louder "How does it fell to know that you are the cause of 'the most beautiful sound in the world'? I never use to purr as much as I met you" It sounded cheezy as hell, but it was true, sadly "Ready for breakfast??"
