description

"Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda" is the BOTM of June, for the theme "LGBTQ+"!
You can find general rules here

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda

So the idea of a 'Book of the month' is sort of a read-along. The BOTM thread (this one) will be for the people who want to do the read-along and share their thoughts after each goal (June 6/7 - I just read till page 40 and my thoughts are .... etc.). Spoilers must be marked of course!

Reading schedule
June 1/5 - Time to get your copies!
June 6/7 - read till page 40
June 8/9 - read till page 80 / read till chapter 9
June 10/11 - read till page 120 / read till chapter 13
June 12/13 - read till page 160 / read till chapter 17
June 14/15 - Time to catch up!
June 16/17 - read till page 200 / read till chapter 21
June 18/19 - read till page 240 / read till chapter 25
June 20/21 - read till page 280 / read till chapter 29
June 22/23 - read till page 320 / read till chapter 32
June 24/25 - read till page 552 / read till chapter 35 ~ Book Finished!
June 26-30 --> Time for more discussion :) This is also the best moment for people who have already read the book before to join in!

I slightly adjusted the reading schedule this time, so there are also five days scheduled for the ones who need to get their copy first and there are two days scheduled halfway the readalong, for the ones who want/need to catch up!
I hope this will make this months readalong more accessible for the ones who struggle with a busy schedule and/or final tests :)

Have fun :D

@ Ilsen

Yeah, people have all sorts of different stories. I know people who have always known, since little kids their sexual preference/identity. There's people who went into denial, and tried to follow the heteronormative way for a while. People who took their time understanding themselves, who went through all sorts of experiences.

I even know some gay men who say that despite their physical and emotional attraction to men, they still like having sex with women sometimes, because it feels good. So really, we can't paint everything white and black in these subjects. We are humans therefore complex beings, after all.

Ilsen Leon | 768 comments Mod
Wow I didn't know that. I never see things in black and white but that is real interesting.

That would be a great twist to the story.

Pg. 80, somewhere in chapter 7. This is gonna be a long and probably not that relevant post :P

Also, just noticed this: my edition has 336 pages. It says 552 in the reading schedule *has no other reaction but to start giggling*

Oh well, tiny details... We'll all reach the same end anyway

If Ilsen has the same edition as you, I can adjust the reading schedule!

Ilsen Leon | 768 comments Mod
My edition only has 303 pages. On pg. 80 it's Chapter 9

I will try to use chapters for the next book of the botm reading schedule! For now: you can use chapters as well, whatever you prefer :) How many chapters does the book have? Then I'll adjust the schedule.

Wait, wait. I've kept reading, so we're more or less at the same place. I wrote down my thoughts while I was reading again. I think I'm gonna keep doing it, it's fun and it's more legit emotionally, but less coherent xD

@Ilsen: The food and the architecture attract me the most. I'd eat so much at Miami to satisfy my curiosity xD

I want to put Blue in a giant warm marshmallow guarded by lions! heh :3

I think you read an extra chapter after me because I'm reading in chapters. But I don't know.

I tried to go with the new schedule that follows chapters, instead of pages.

I'm on pg. 130 (Chapter 17)

Even though I'm only somewhat halfway I'm still glad that I got to do this readalong because this seems like the type of book I would breeze through. But because I spent so much time on it, I truly appreciate it more.

Chapter 17.

Me too. It made it more enjoyable. I re-read parts so I could be exact when talking to you, and ended up reliving moments. :)
Otherwise, this book is such a breeze reading-wise, it would just fly by.

(view spoiler)

Ilsen Leon | 768 comments Mod
Ok I'm confused. For the Chapter parts, do I stop at the beginning of Chapter 21 or at the end because I've been stopping at the beginning because I'm not sure where to stop. I mean it said "until Chapter *insert number here*" and I assumed that meant stop right at that chapter. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

(view spoiler)

Ilsen Leon | 768 comments Mod
Ok I think I got it now. I'm supposed to stop at Chapter 22 not 21. Sorry for not understanding correctly
