Kristie | 12976 comments Hi team 3! So excited for the toppler! I can't wait to begin. :)

Any suggestions for a name? Nothing comes to mind immediately, but I'll think on it.

Also, does anyone want to volunteer to be the team leader or score keeper for our team? I know I hogged the first few threads, but I'm not really looking for either job. You don't need experience to do either.

Which books are you hoping to read and which tasks do they fit? I've posted the tasks above. My top choices are listed below, but I do have some other choices set aside for other tasks, if that's what we need.

The Gunslinger - Revolver
Black-Eyed Susans - Conservatory
Beartown - Billiard Room (this is a long book for me, but fits what might be a difficult task and will be worth extra points.)

I would think so. It says he infiltrates the local library in the blurb.

Kristie | 12976 comments I'm also interested in The Orphan's Tale for the Rope task, but I probably won't be reading 4 books. It's just another option for me.

Lori Z | 1806 comments Hello Teammates!!
So I was thinking about the name thing. I thought since we're team 3 and there's 3 categories we want to complete for the most points, maybe we could go with Triple Threat or Triple Crown or Trifecta. Just a thought.

I've been busy gophering and here's some of my favorite options:
Mrs. Peacock: January Exposure January Exposure by Sunny Benson
Col. Mustard: Limoncello Yellow
Dagger/Knife: The Queen of Minor Disasters
Lead Pipe: Secret of the Painted Lady
Kitchen: Southern Peach Pie and a Dead Guy
Ballroom: Strictly Murder Strictly Murder (Verity Long Mysteries #1) by Lynda Wilcox or Quickstep to Murder Quickstep to Murder (A Ballroom Dance Mystery #1) by Ella Barrick
Conservatory: Digging Up Trouble
Billiard Room: Playing With Poison
Library: Murder at the 42nd Street Library
Study: A Study in Charlotte

Of course, I won't be able to read them all so once we figure out what needs covered I'll narrow it down.

So excited for another great toppler!

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments Suspects:

Col. Mustard: The Plum Tree by Ellen Marie Wiseman - yellow cover. 400 pages
Mrs. Peacock: Beach Music by Pat Conroy - blue cover 800 pgs.

Weapons:

Lead Pipe: One Bad Apple 262 pgs. Plumber, Seth Chapman helps Orchard owner discover the killer in this cozy mystery.

Revolver: Ritual 560 pgs. Inspector Jack Cafferty and Sargent Pheobe "Flea" Marley are Police and both carry guns.

Rooms:

Kitchen: The Kitchen Daughter 304 pgs. 26-year-old Ginny Selvaggio seeks comfort in cooking from family recipes.

Conservatory: The Violets of March by Sarah Jio 296 pgs

Lounge: Station Eleven 336 pgs One snowy night a famous Hollywood actor slumps over and dies onstage during a production of King Lear. Hours later, the world as we know it begins to dissolve. Moving back and forth in time—from the actor's early days as a film star to fifteen years in the future, when a theater troupe known as The Travelling Symphony roams the wasteland of what remains—this suspenseful, elegiac, spellbinding novel charts the strange twists of fate that connect five people: the actor, the man who tried to save him, the actor's first wife, his oldest friend, and a young actress with the Traveling Symphony, caught in the crosshairs of a dangerous self-proclaimed prophet.

These are my books.

If we still need a score keeper, I'll do it. (If I'm chosen, I'll set up the reporting thread for team 3.)

message 21: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2578 comments Are we going to try and start assigning tasks to ensure we complete sections? Or is it too short notice for that?

message 22: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 12976 comments I think assigning tasks is a great idea. That's probably something the team leader would do based on the books people say they plan to read. Then she / he lets us know what tasks still need to be filled and cheers us on to get it all done. Are you volunteering for the position, Lynn? :)

message 23: by Ava Catherine (last edited May 30, 2017 06:31AM) (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I have a new book with a flower on the cover for Conservatory. Someone Else's Love Story: A Novel
Mrs. Peacock: Blue Nights has a blue cover and "blue" in the title
I think I can find a white cover or something with the word white in the title for Mrs. White.

message 24: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited May 30, 2017 07:19AM) (new)

Kristie | 12976 comments I also have Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince planned to read this month, which fits the Hall task. It is pretty long (652 pages), so it counts for extra points, but will take me pretty much all week to read, so I wouldn't be helping out much, if at all with other tasks.

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I can do dining room and Mr. Green.
Since so many are doing conservatory, you can take my name off, or I can save that book till last.
I will definitely find a white book.

If not, I have other ideas.

message 29: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 12976 comments Thanks, Connie. How many books do you think you will be able to read?

message 30: by Kristie, Moderator (last edited May 30, 2017 08:01AM) (new)

Kristie | 12976 comments Ok...So, I'm just going to keep going with the planning unless someone else steps up to take over.

The numbers next to your name is the amount of books you said you would probably be able to read in the sign-up thread. Just let me know if that number has changed and I will edit it. The number in parenthesis is how many times your name is listed to complete a book. If you don't think you will be able to get to something listed, please let us know so we can assign it to someone else. What does everyone think of these 'assignments' so far?

Once we get through all of the tasks once, we can try to complete sections again for additional bonuses.

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments It is difficult to say. 7-9 maybe
It depends on length and difficulty.

I can do candlestick, too.
I usually try to fill in the gaps if I can.

message 32: by Ava Catherine (last edited May 30, 2017 08:01AM) (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments I might be able to read The Color Purple for plum if no one else wants to read that category. Let me know if you need me on this one.

message 33: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 12976 comments Pefect, Connie! Thanks. I didn't want to plug you in too many places not knowing how many books you'd be able to read and overwhelm you.

message 34: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 12976 comments Lynn, Mariab, and Poongothai - Just let us know what tasks you can cover and I'll edit the above to fit you all in the first round. I'm just plugging in people to make sure we have everything covered to start with, but we all have multiple tasks, so I can change the list to add you to our first books list. You won't be left out! That list isn't set in stone.

I think so. This is basically what I had in mind when I created the task, assuming her return home rekindles her relationship with her mother as well or she finds her dad and begins a relationship with him. Something to that effect.

message 36: by Ava Catherine (new)

Ava Catherine | 4258 comments It is so difficult to tell from the summary, but it looks like she has been estranged from both and, hopefully, finds her dad through the search and creates a new bond with him. Fingers crossed!

message 37: by Lori Z (new)

Lori Z | 1806 comments Thanks Kristie, for getting us organized!
I'm good with my 3 and hope to do more, just have to see how the week goes and what tasks need to be done. These 3 are short books so I'll probably be able to read at least a 4th one, fingers crossed.

message 38: by Lori Z (new)

Lori Z | 1806 comments Connie, apparently great minds think alike. I didn't see your post while I was typing mine, and now I see we both have our fingers crossed, lol.

Also, Kristie, I found a book for the wrench task, The Girl Mechanic of Wanzhou so if no one else can cover that one I could try to squeeze that one in. It's only 182 pages.

message 42: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 12976 comments I like that, Lori.

I was thinking of something like Miss Scarlet's Rage or something like that. Something that pulls in a character and makes it sound like we're the murderer, since we'll be "killing" all the other teams.

Lynn | 2578 comments Kristie wrote: "Are you volunteering for the position, Lynn? :) "

You know I'd normally be up for helping but I'm just snowed under at the moment that I haven't even had time to look at my own books yet :/

I'm currently gearing up for two big projects in my work life and personal life.
Work I have one of my food festivals coming up next weekend.
Personally we have a two week performance run for a project my choir is involved in about York Suffragettes that starts mid June.

Do I get the impression that pretty much all the categories have already been covered?

message 47: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 12976 comments Busy, busy! Good stuff though.

Most of the topics can covered. Just let us know what books you're interested in and we'll plug you in somewhere for the first round. People have other books they want to read too and we can move some to the second round. We want to make sure we complete every task at least once, then work on completing another full section or two again for more bonus points.

Anne (Booklady) Molinarolo (wwwgoodreadscomAnneMolinarolo) | 1282 comments This is what the Spreadsheet looks like:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

If you don't mind, please post what book your reading here along with the date you started it. You'll understand my method when you see the spreadsheet. I'm coloring the cells different colors to show what tasks are in progress and those tasks that are completed. From here the books and your name will be in yellow and Those books/tasks from the reporting thread will be in Plum.

And I've taken into account if we repeat a section. :)

Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation on both threads. It will help me to record the progress in this thread and hopefully also in the Reporting Thread since that thread will only have completed tasks/books on there.

You guys are Awesome! :)
