Why is there so much focus on babies in the novel?
Give examples of the different types of baby the narrator encounters.
What is the significance of the baby crawling forward?

It is the babies who haunt Tod why did they do what they did to children and babies.

We encounter the bomb baby, the baby that holds a whole family hostage to its needs and of course Ava, Tod's daughter.

The baby crawling forward really through me and I would love to know what the author intended by this.

I figured that he had been a doctor who was performing abortions and experiments on babies.

It was the bomb babies crying that gave the people hiding in the wall away and Tod was responsible for their being found.
