Koji | 11 comments I read this book in the mid to late 90's. It is a YA fantasy book about a world where certain people are born with the ability to see and manipulate threads that connect people and objects together. These are usually the magicians and are very powerful. I believe it was a series of multiple books. The threads were very colorful. I think the main character is a princess or similar role with the ability to see threads.

Hmm, this sounds familiar. Try searching the discussion posts in this group...

Thanks Natasha. That's what I was thinking of. Very curious to see if anything looks familiar to Kojishi.

Natasha | 250 comments I thought it sounded familiar too, because the concept intrigued me then (and still does).

Koji | 11 comments Nothing in those threads sounds like it... it wasn't about dragons and it wasn't Tamora Pierce, not the doorway trilogy either, although it may have had some scenes in this reality (but I may be mixing up books here).

Koji | 11 comments Was searching some threads on reddit, too, and I think it could be Night Threads by Ru Emerson... it sounds vaguely familiar. I will try to find it and see if that is it.

Liz Meeks | 6 comments was it Melanie Rawn's Sunrunners? (Dragon Prince / Dragon Star trilogies)

Ceilidh (suitcasedragon) | 58 comments These books are probably not old enough, but it sounds very similar to the Books of Umber trilogy (Happenstance Found).

Kelly (khek) | 270 comments I read the Night Threads books by Ru Emerson. They're about a 20-something lawyer, her older sister, and her sister's son (who is about 16 or 17) who somehow get transported to another world. She ends up with the ability to manipulate threads...the energy in the world. Her sister ends up in a relationship with royalty, and the son becomes a warrior. The series has about five books, and it didn't feel finished.

If you want more details and think it's the right series, I know I still have them.

Mel (Epic Reading) (mel-epicreading) | 11 comments This really sounds like Sunrunners books. I read them many years ago and before I even saw someone else suggest them they came to mind.

Heather Also could be the Crewel trilogy by Gennifer Albin, which was published in the last few years. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

Nora Glass | 11 comments Maybe the book Graceful by Wendy Mass?

Nora Glass | 11 comments Sorry, that’s not it, wrong time period.

Here's the Google Books preview of The Calling of the Three (1990; Night-Threads, #1) by Ru Emerson - https://books.google.com/books?id=q6w... There are different cover images.

Koji, was your book Night Threads by Ru Emerson? We need to move this out of Possibly Solved.

Jessica Maynard (manateejess) | 1 comments Sounds like the one I was looking for when I stumbled upon this thread. Mine was The Ropemaker by Peter Dickinson https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

While not specifically YA books, there's Roger Zelazny's two novels: Changeling and Madwand.

Rombe3RR | 1 comments This matches a description of a book series I am also trying to remember. None of the suggested books so far is what I am remembering. I think the main character is a young (14-16) girl. I vaguely remember a scene where she is walking into a city following the threads (I thought they were golden) that connect to specific people. I don't remember there overtly being magic or magicians, no dragons and it was a completely fictional world - no connections to Earth.
