Discuss.

message 2: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Oh wow. Where to start?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments I liked the Urban Cowboy's fashion a tiny bit better.

message 4: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I have a hard time with Urban Cowboy, but I know next to nothing about Coal Miner's Daughter. But I get the feeling CMD is better. Unless you like Travolta in tight pants.

Has anyone ever tried one of those mechanical bull things?

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17320 comments Mod
Right. And Debra Winger had good hair. But...

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments I didn't ever see Urban Cowboy. I went to see CMD with my youth group. Which, right there, is a sign...

I am not a fan of country music, big hair, or those prairie dresses Loretta Lynn wears.

message 7: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Jackie was more into this kind of big hair:

Hmmm. In which role? Wasn't she in both?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments Sissy Spacek played Loretta Lynn. I don't believe Debra Winger was in CMD.

Those are some gnarly perms, RA!

See, I ♥ Urban Cowboy. It was iconic to me.

Coal Miner's Daughter: should like it. Can't stand it. Why is that?

message 12: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments I can't compare - they're both filed under the ♥ ♥ ♥ in my book. In fact, I used to get Sissy Spacek and Debra Winger mixed up all the time when I was younger.

What does three hearts mean? Out of three? Or five?

message 14: by Lori (new)

Lori Huh, I am NOT a fan of country music, but I really liked CMD. Love Sissy, and say, wasn't that Tommy Lee Jones in it?

I don't think I've ever seen UC. I've never been a fan of Ravolta. I do so love Debra Winger tho, and have missed her.

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17320 comments Mod
Oh, Tommy Lee Jones wins an Oscar in my heart. Just for being so adorable.

And Debra Winger makes that movie, Lori. JT is tolerable, but not necessary.

It's "LOVE LOVE LOOOOVE" - not a rating.

Oh, you have enunciation applications as well! Interesting!

message 18: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Debra rode that bull REAL GOOD. Oh my yes.

Those scenes don't really light my fire. They might mesmerize me, but I'm not turned on.

just so you know.

The thing about The Heidi, so the rest of y'all know, is that she is endlessly amusing. See, you can read her literally, as well as graphically. It's like she's two-dimensional!

message 24: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yup. The rest of us are intermittent dogs in comparison.

OMG, if you were Clive Owen, I'd kidnap you and have your babies.

I've ridden a mechanical bull before. <>

message 28: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) How was it, Rita?

message 29: by Rita (new)

Rita Sadly, Debra Winger I'm not. I won't be quitting my day job any time soon.

BUT, having said that, it was actually a lot of fun and much more difficult than I imagined.

message 30: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I'm not Debra Winger either, if that makes you feel any better. :P

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments There you go, Larry, crushing another one of my illusions. ;)

message 32: by Rita (new)

Rita

I think I like this place :-)

message 33: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Sorry Jackie. I couldn't keep up the charade any longer.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments Well, sure, it's hard living a lie like that. The wardrobe costs alone would be horrendous!

message 35: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) You don't know the half of it, Jackie.

message 36: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments All I remeber about Urban Cowboy is a guy eating a worm from the tequillia bottle, and Sissy saying"K" to Bud, every other line, Oh yea and the Texas two step. CMD was after Carrie wasn't it? I just always see Carrie when I look a Sissy Spacek.shivers

message 37: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments CMD--I liked it a lot better than UC. I loved how it covered Loretta Lynn's life from almost the beginning. It was really good.

message 38: by Meen (new)

Meen (meendee) | 1733 comments Coal Miner's Daughter all the way. For so many reasons. And I'm too tired to list them all.

message 39: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 777 comments I remeber the scene from CMD when Loretta left her husband that she married when she was thirteen and came back home and her dad was so happy and he gave her a big hug and he laughed and said, Married life fattened you up, and then it showed the mom's face--like oh no! and she was right. Loretta was pregnant. It was sad, like the bars were coming down around her, and she ended up back with her husband and having lots of kids before she was even 20. The husband was a jerk so much of the time.

message 40: by Wild for Wilde (new)

Wild for Wilde (wildforwilde) URBAN COWBOY FO SHO!!

The rest of you suckers need to go rent Urban Cowboy and do some serious thinking about the difference between Sissy Spacek (ick) and Debra Winger (hot).

message 45: by Misha (new)

Misha (ninthwanderer) Urban Cowboy. It's so delightfully trashy, and I generally find music biopics boring. Sorry, CMD.

Woot!

message 47: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Woot squared.

message 48: by Wild for Wilde (new)

Wild for Wilde (wildforwilde) Nobody has really talked about John Travolta in this discussion, I'm surprised because he was sooo sexy and fun to watch in Urban Cowboy which is part of the reason I chose it over the other movie!

message 49: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yeah. Whatever happened to him anyway?

message 50: by Wild for Wilde (new)

Wild for Wilde (wildforwilde) he became a scientologist and gained weight
