Diane | 1889 comments Despite her education, she continues with the traditional expectations of her people. She has very little say in what goes on in her household and caters to her husband. Even though she earns money as a teacher, her income goes directly to Babamukuru, who makes all the decisions to how the money will be spent. She is never able to reach her full potential due to gender role expectations. This does improve somewhat toward the end when she begins to challenge Babamukuru. Still, she fails to completely escape her oppression.
