Good morning! Here is the nomination thread for April's Book of the Month! Feel free to match your nomination with April's Monthly Challenge, but it's not required to do that in order to nominate. April's Monthly Challenge is going to be Biblical Fiction.

If you have never nominated before, please look at the full guidelines: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...!

PLEASE REVIEW THESE GUIDELINES:
-Please do not nominate a book we've already read as a group, especially not one we've done in the last 2 - 3 years. You will be asked for a different nomination if you do. Find our shelves here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books....
-Remember that a book must be out for 6 months or more to be eligible for nominations and voting
-Try not to nominate an author that we've read that year already
-If it is a book in a series that is not the first book, make sure you know that it can be read as a standalone and doesn't require the previous books being read to understand and enjoy.
-Please note that there may be more reasons that a book is not a good fit for nominations or group members as a whole, whether it be availability, cost, accessibility, etc. The moderators reserve the right to make these decision. Thank you for your understanding! :)

Nominations will be open through February 14, then for the remainder of the month, the voting poll will be open.

Nominations as of February 2:
1. Vendetta by Lisa Harris
2. Wildflowers from Winter by Katie Ganshert
3. Michal by Jill Eileen Smith
4. First Light by Bodie Thoene
5. Claudia, Wife of Pontius Pilate by Diana Wallis Taylor
6. Land of Silence by Tessa Afshar
7. The Confessions of X by Suzanne M. Wolfe
8. The Pharaoh's Daughter by Mesu Andrews

I nominate Michal (The Wives of King David #1) by Jill Eileen Smith . It works for the Biblical fiction challenge, and it's one I've been intending to try for nearly a year and have never fit it in.

The month is saved - I hope we are not the only two looking for some suspense :-)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 2275 comments Haha! I'm so eager for book three in this series to come out... I thought it would help to reread book one!

CFD read this one as a group back in 2013, but I think since it's been over 3 years, it's fine to go with it. :)

Nope! :) I say over three years is fair game to be in nominations.

Yeah for the Biblical Fiction nominations! :D

I know this is a bit more like literary fiction than the group usually likes to read, but I really want to read this one, so I will nominate:

The Confessions of X by Suzanne M. Wolfe

I just ordered this book! I look forward every year to seeing the books chosen by Christianity Today as best of the year & have discovered many new authors this way. As you may know, this won the fiction award.

I'll be voting for Confessions of X. It was my top historical in 2016. Fabulous!

The Confessions of X by Suzanne M. Wolfe

I'm super excited to read it and have been so anxious to get to it. I'll be reading it whether it gets picked or not! ;)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 302 comments I'm probably either going to be voting for First Light (A.D. Chronicles, #1) by Bodie Thoene or Land of Silence by Tessa Afshar just because I've seen good reviews for both of them. I also don't want to always vote for my choices.

message 20: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 302 comments @Beth: There are already so many, great choices again this time. I do not plan to participate in the discussions m, however, since I've already over-committed to Buddy Reads this year.

Chantel (channylee07) | 481 comments That's the great thing about this group we always have so many great BOTM selections! Lol, some months I'm like "I want to read all the nominations!" #booknerdproblems

Confessions of X is $1.99.

message 26: by Beth, Head Librarian (new)

Beth | 2520 comments Mod
Okay, everyone! The top two books both had 7 votes a piece - I will have to set up a tie-breaking poll, to see which will be the Group Read and which will be the Buddy. Stay tuned. I'll try to get that set up as quickly as possible!

Okay, here is the poll to break the tie!

That one was my pick! :( ;)

message 29: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 19 comments Even though I also voted for "Confessions of X" (and hope to read it soon), I have copies of both those that tied & want to read them both! Guess I need to flip a coin.

Beth | 2520 comments Mod
Guys, this is hilarious. There is a tie on the tie-breaking poll. I might just have to make an executive decision on this one, haha!

message 31: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 2275 comments Didn't we have that happen one other time? So funny!

I re-voted.

Hopefully Andrea's revote will break the tie. If not, go for it Beth. You choose!

message 34: by Lauren (last edited Mar 04, 2017 09:24PM) (new)

Lauren (aren216) | 136 comments I voted this time, I don't normally do a group read, but they both seem rather interesting so I might.

message 35: by Beth, Head Librarian (new)

Beth | 2520 comments Mod
We do have ties fairly often on the main poll. Usually, the tie goes away before I have to make a tie-breaker poll though! And usually there is no tie on the tie-breaker poll, even if it's just one or two votes that keep it that way.

Kind of fun though, changes things up, huh? :)

It's a hard pick between those two. I've read Tessa's book already and it's excellent. I think it would be a great pick. And I love Katie's writing style, but haven't read that one yet (however I do own it, so I have no excuse, ha!). Her books always deal with important issues, so I know it's be good for discussion as well.

Either way we go, I think both discussions will be good. :)

message 36: by Chantel (new)

Chantel (channylee07) | 481 comments Lol! Too funny! We should just read both. ;-)

message 37: by Beth, Head Librarian (new)

Beth | 2520 comments Mod
Well, technically both are being read - just one as a Group Read and one as a Buddy, so either way, we're good! :)

message 38: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 3912 comments Mod
Guess we know ahead of time what the two reads will be. Cool.

Yes, Lindsey, we do work a bit ahead for the group reads because members at one point said they wanted more time to acquire the book and read it before the discussion started. :) Feel free to let us know if you have any questions and to nominate something for May's read if you'd like!
