Tarryn (thoughtsinintervals) | 17 comments Hi, I want to add a book cover to the book linked:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

The Cover photo is here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/zly04vzb6s5...

Thanks!

Codex | 3401 comments Since you created the book entry, can you please provide the ISBN?

message 3: by Tarryn (new)

Tarryn (thoughtsinintervals) | 17 comments It doesn't have one - it's a very old copy before the numbers were printed on them

message 4: by Alex (new)

Alex | 2739 comments Done. Also separated the instances of authors George and Weedon Grossmith sharing a profile.

Interesting, because I found this: https://www.amazon.com/Diary-Nobody-F... —which specifies ISBN-13: 9780850670158 (ISBN-10: 0850670152).

Although the slipcase is concealing most of the cover, it looks like the image you provided.

Alex | 2739 comments Sorry about this, I should have been more thorough.

These older editions sometimes don't have the ISBN as clearly stated or even at all. If it is the 1969 edition, it might have an SBN (9-digit number). Sometimes a vintage ISBN can be formed of seemingly random alphanumerics. ETA: These can be found on the front or back cover or even the spine of the book.

Tarryn, is there something like that in your edition? Also, please note, this listing is for an 1892 edition, one of the very first. If you could provide us with a picture of the bibliographical pages (where the publication information is recorded) that would be much appreciated.

lethe | 13731 comments That cover belongs to a Folio Society edition. I sorted out the Folio Society editions in 2015. They do not have ISBNs (book club editions - the only FS edition with an ISBN was their bibliography, jointly published with the British Library).

Please check before you add a new edition. There were two already:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... (the original Folio Society edition from 1969, illustration in greyish brown and title on the spine in red)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7... (a later edition with the illustration and title printed in black)

The edition you added has several errors. W & J Mackay is the printer, not the publisher. Also, 1892 is the book's original pub date, not the actual pub date of the edition. I think it should be merged into the FS original edition.

Tarryn (thoughtsinintervals) | 17 comments I believe the copy you found on amazon looks like mine - the pages have next to no information and the publisher is not stated but the printer is. I will provide pictures of the pages asap

Not even on the title page??

This is all the information stated in the book. I apologise if I got it wrong! But hopefully with this you can help me fix it.

lethe | 13731 comments On the title page the publisher (The Folio Society) and year of publication (1969) are given. No indication of a later impression on the reverse title page.

Can you tell me what the cover looks like? Is the illustration in greyish brown/brownish grey, and is the title on the spine printed in red?

message 12: by Tarryn (new)

Tarryn (thoughtsinintervals) | 17 comments The picture of the title page is linked at the top of this thread - however the cover is yellow the spine is yellow and there is line drawing on it in a strange off brown colour of a building and a man walking past the building. Ultimately the whole cover is yellow

message 13: by lethe (last edited Feb 01, 2017 03:42AM) (new)

lethe | 13731 comments Yes, but the title at the top of the spine - is it in red? Like this one: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... (click on the cover image to enlarge if you can't see it clearly)

Tarryn (thoughtsinintervals) | 17 comments I'm not sure as I was given this passed down so it has faded - potentially! But it's very faded

message 15: by lethe (new)

lethe | 13731 comments OK, since everything else points to your copy being the first Folio Society edition (which does have the red lettering), I'll merge it with the edition linked in msg #13. I don't have time now, but I'll do it later today.

Scott Spotson (scottspotson) | 10 comments I'm adding a book cover for the new novel: Alia Tero: The Many Lives of Darren Datita, co-authored by Lull Mengesha and Scott Spotson.

(Okay, the Goodreads website for this book hasn't been automatically updated yet; I saved changes only about an hour ago, and it now has my name).

Very soon, we'll have the formatted book (with new cover) added to Amazon and Kobo websites. But for now, can we have the new cover added... you can see it here: https://99designs.com/book-cover-desi...

I have a .jpg file for the book cover, but how do I get it to you? I would be happy to send it by "We Transfer" if you give me an email address. Thank you!!

message 18: by Codex (new)

Codex | 3401 comments #17: That cover was already uploaded (within the last day) by one of the authors: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/3...

message 19: by Scott (new)

Scott Spotson (scottspotson) | 10 comments Yes I did it actually, the Goodreads librarian though had to step in upon my request, to make the new cover the default cover. Thanks so much!

Goodreads staff member, actually. Librarians cannot set default editions.

It took a while for the merge to go through, but it finally worked. Here is your edition: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6... :)
