Eleanor | 3 comments I've just joined the group hoping for some advice. I'm about to take my 12 year old daughter to Paris for the first time. She's a good reader and interested in history. Can anyone recommend good historical novels about French history suitable for this age group? Help much appreciated! Thank you

Lynaia | 22 comments A good overall history of Paris is the book Paris by Edward Rutherfurd.

K.S.R. Burns | 54 comments Years ago I read a book called "The History of France as Told to Juliette." It was wonderful. Very conversational and friendly. It is meant for adult readers, I believe, but if your daughter is a very avid reader she might enjoy it.

Oops, I have just now reread your post and see you were asking about NOVELS. Sorry! But I'll leave my reply up, to see if anyone else has read or heard of the Juliette book.

That's great, thank you. Novels, histories, they're all good - anything that will help make the trip come alive for her!

Louise (A Strong Belief in Wicker) | 2 comments Hi Eleanor, I hope you and your daughter have a fabulous trip to Paris. How can you not? There are quite a few options.

Susan Fletcher's A Little in Love is a YA account of Eponine's story (from Les Mis). Very readable.

Sally Gardner has written two novels set in Revolutionary France - Red Necklace and Silver Blade. I haven't read them myself but have heard good things.

My Royal Story is a series of diarised novels from historical figures. There is one for Marie Antoinette, there maybe other titles.

I just found a goodreads France YA list- some of which are historical fiction. (I want to read lots of those too)

Louise (A Strong Belief in Wicker) | 2 comments Oh and I don't think it's historical fiction but Rooftoppers is set in Paris and said to be great YA.

Eleanor | 3 comments Brilliant, there's a lot there, especially with the YA list. Hopefully we will have fun choosing and reading! I expect I'll end up reading a lot of them too....
