Kayla | 5 comments I remember reading it for school, around 1998 (in the same unit as Number the Stars and Diary of Anne Frank). The main character is female, around 12 years old. I think her name started with a Z, or the author's name did. She and her family were emigrating to America and were going through Ellis Island inspection. She was quarentined for lice (I think?), but the rest of family was not. The book details her experience while waiting to be given the clean bill of health required to join her family in America.

Natasha | 210 comments Could it be Dreams in the Golden Country, The Diary of Zipporah Feldman, a Jewish Immigrant Girl (in the Dear America series)?

Holly (hollylovesbooks) | 761 comments I think that's probably Letters from Rifka. IIRC, the main character, Rifka, is quarantined for ringworm (which is not an actual parasite/worm!)
