HEAR YE HEAR YE,
I have an important announcement to make!
Ev has decided the winner of her poetry contest 'Moving On' to be
*EPIC DRUMROLL*
BOOKCRAZY!
And here's her epic poem:
I am moving on from all this
I am moving on from anger
I am moving on from hate
Strange fruit and cold eyes and hands that don't know what they're doing
Hearts that don't even care
Wicked smiles sharp teeth and jagged edged lies
Jagged edges tears that tear you apart inside
Birds and shoves and ridicule
I am moving on from this
I am moving on from all this
I am moving on from despair
Black holes inside that take you down to the grave
Seeing tearstains reflected in every face
Rain
That doesn't stop
Even when you beg it to, and people who hold you down in the pit with both hands
I am moving on from this
I am moving on from all this
I am moving on from envy
Her hand in the back pocket of your jeans
Scores and scores of girls with perfect stomachs, perfect thighs
Magazines and hairstyles and makeup just to make you feel ashamed
Freedom in dark blue eyes
A freedom I will never taste
I am moving on from this
I am moving on from all this
I am moving on from assumptions and doubt
Whispers in the locker room, fingers quickly hidden, smiles wiped up with a napkin
As you turn to see
They aren't talking about you
He didn't do that last week
She's not evil enough inside to have made up such a story
About you
That you can't possibly be good enough to stand on your own two feet
I am moving on from this
I am moving on from all this
I am moving on from fear
Lightning in the middle of the night
Dark cars parked outside on the street, windows rolling up when you walk by
Ten fingers, four with heavy rings, that roll up into fists like heavy muted bricks
A lock on your door that doesn't work anymore
I am moving on from this
I am moving on from all this
I am packing my bags
I am lifting my head
I am dreaming of a better life
I am looking for a better me
Sharp fingers, sharp questions thrown like daggers, don't bother me
It doesn't matter where I'm going. All that matters is
I fought you long enough
I stood there long enough
I hid my face long enough
I drowned my sorrows long enough
I laid alone long enough
And I am moving on
Second Place: Emily's Poem
Third Place: Masi's Poems
Fourth Place: Erin's Poem

Congrats! And your poetry is absolutely amazing <3
Everyone's poetry was beautiful guys, and I'm so glad the member-run contests are turning out so well!

Or you could just announce the tie. I think we probably allow ties. Besides, the poll hasn't closed yet has it? Maybe one more person will vote and you will have a winner ;)

Here are the super awesome poemas:
Untitled by Nadia
drowning,
pulled under by
seaweed,
dragged down
to the depths of the ocean,
she floats
a seashell
the color
of purest ivory
she settles
unnoticed
on the bottom of the ocean
one night
after wild rides
and crazy parties
spinning, drinking
twirling, singing
running through high tide
lost in drunken lies
she begins to cry
because this isn't living
so she wants to die
she lays there
a pearl
of beauty
hidden,
not seen
even by the keenest eyes
she wonders if the day will come
when someone doesn't walk by
Crawling into the ocean,
she floats,
letting waves draw her in
feeling salt on her skin
water slowly filling her mouth
as she begins to drown
She's lonely
they tell her
she is rare
but she'd rather be known
than treasured from afar
barely breathing,
she can't see,
except
something white,
catches her eye,
illuminating light
her heart,
slowly fading into darkness
realizes
there's always another way out
Starlight by Bookcrazy
Star light,
bright in the empty sky
pretend that everything is fine
while I live your lie.
You dance on,
decade-old sunlight though I
will be much too late
to mourn you if you die.
Still, you never even try
to ask me why,
or offer a reason for being
other than what I’m seeing.
Yet on and on I hear your
whispers in the night,
every time you dance up in the sky:
You are surrounded by dark unknown,
you are million-mile alone,
you are cold in the constant night,
you are the source of your own light.
Yet on and on I hear your
whispers in the night
every time you dance up in the sky:
You still survive in the endless cold.
You still blossom as you grow old.
You still trail the night sky, dutiful.
You still believe that life is beautiful.
Shining in the Dark by Quetzal Queen
I never knew I could feel this way
Empty
Betrayed
Empty
Played
I thought I was safe from those to come
Haters
Breakers
Haters
Fakers
I thought I could tell you what it meant
Love
Life
Love
Strife
I thought I knew the right and wrong
Good
Night
Good
Light
I thought the light could change me, break me, make me
Brave and
Strong
Brave but
Wrong
Light is right, isn't that so?
No, it
Lies
No, it
Dies
No, I became who I am because of something else
Something
More
Something
Core
It showed me how to be strong in the real way
The way of
Night
The way of
Sight
And I learned so many things
How to
See
How to
Be
I could be myself, finally, because I've faced them all
The
Worst
The
Cursed
I didn't die, but instead, I
Lived
Thrived
Lived
Revived
I don't need the light
Because I now know how to fight
Independent
Alone
Independent
My own
