I recently read this wonderful book and are looking for something like that. I'm not looking for a book about people traveling by car, I wanted to read something with the same incredible atmosphere. About free the people of that time. About drinkers and smokers. On the era of beatniks. The eternal dance. About the crazy music. About dirty sex. I hope you understand me. Thank you)))

Tropic of Cancer isn't the beatnik era, but it's similar. The 20s and 30s, in Paris. Lots of dirty sex and prostitutes. Reportedly it inspired Kerouac.

You might like Jesus' Son by Denis Johnson. It's from the early 1990s but has a similar kind of vibe to On the Road.
