message 5: by Taylor (last edited Aug 04, 2009 09:21PM) (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) lascivious -- Weird, I know, but I think it's fun to say and it reminds me of a very interesting class period...

felonious -- Totally fun to say!

obsequious -- Again, fun to say, especially to people who don't know the meaning...

Why do all of these end in "-ous"?

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

because all the best words end in "-ous" but then again there are the "-ly" wordls like lavishly and the "-ified" words like objectified

message 13: by Ashley (last edited Aug 20, 2009 08:53AM) (new)

Ashley (mashley310) Does anyone want to post definition with their words???

Seriously... it's too hard to look everything up.
The hard one's obviously... not like glue. I think everyone knows what glue is. Hopefully...

message 14: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylorjaylene) Lascivious is kinda dirty... The official definition is "inclined to lustfulness". I just like it because it's fun to say and reminds me of a really interesting day in class....

Felonious can mean either relating to a felony or wicked. Again, a word from that class.

Obsequious means showing servile complaisance. Or, as it was taught to me, being a kiss-up.

message 15: by Ashley (new)

Ashley (mashley310) altruistic means... in my own words... especially kind and caring.

message 16: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ phalanges: the digital bones of the hand or foot of a vertebrate

ubiquitous: existing or being everywhere at the same time ; constantly encountered

torpor: 1 a : a state of mental and motor inactivity with partial or total insensibility b : a state of lowered physiological activity typically characterized by reduced metabolism, heart rate, respiration, and body temperature that occurs in varying degrees especially in hibernating and estivating animals
2 : apathy, dullness

message 17: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (v_a_b) Umm, sordid is basically filthy/dirty/ugly. It is used in reference to francie's writings (the ones that the teacher tells her to burn while repeating the phrase "I am burning ugliness") in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. If you've ever read the book, of course. But if you haven't, you should.

message 18: by Brigid ✩ (new)

Brigid ✩ Aahhh I love that book!
Haha sordid was one of my vocab words last year ... :D
