Hello, everyone! My apologies for the delay and Happy New Year! Here is the nomination thread for March's Book of the Month.

Feel free to match your nomination with March's Monthly Challenge, but it's not required to do that in order to nominate (March- Keyword- Books that have these words in their title- Green, Irish(Ireland), Gold, Emerald, Rainbow, Bonus- Shamrock)

If you have never nominated before, please look at the full guidelines: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...!

PLEASE REVIEW THESE GUIDELINES:
-Please do not nominate a book we've already read as a group, especially not one we've done in the last 2 - 3 years. You will be asked for a different nomination if you do. Find our shelves here: https://www.goodreads.com/group/books....
-Remember that a book must be out for 6 months or more to be eligible for nominations and voting
-Try not to nominate an author that we've read that year already
-If it is a book in a series that is not the first book, make sure you know that it can be read as a standalone and doesn't require the previous books being read to understand and enjoy.
-Please note that there may be more reasons that a book is not a good fit for nominations or group members as a whole, whether it be availability, cost, accessibility, etc. The moderators reserve the right to make these decision. Thank you for your understanding! :)

Nominations will be open through the 15th (or so, since I'm late posting) of the month, then for the remainder of the month, the voting poll will be open.

Nominations as of Jan. 15:
1. The Irish Healer by Nancy Herriman
2. The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen
3. Like Never Before by Melissa Tagg
4. Irish Meadows by Susan Anne Mason
5. Bride of a Distant Isle by Sandra Byrd
6. Summer of Promise by Amanda Cabot
7. The Icecutter's Daughter by Tracie Peterson
8. Only the River Runs Free by Bodie Thoene
9. A Home for My Heart by Anne Mateer
10. Lethal Action by Rachel Dylan

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 344 comments @Andrea: I am not aware of what the other, featured, monthly challenge for M

message 7: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 3917 comments Mod
The rotating monthly challenges. Right now we're doing the "clean your shelves" one (January), but I believe March's challenge will be a keyword one, and if I read the list of keywords correctly, "Irish" is one of them.

Cheryl Olson (girlsmama) | 694 comments I'll nominate Bride of a Distant Isle :)

message 9: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 344 comments We have really good choices so far.

message 13: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 224 comments for those of us who put up with winters; I will suggest The Icecutter's Daughter (Land of Shining Water, #1) by Tracie Peterson It is a romanctic suspense; in the early 1900 with 'icecutters' backgound history. to hopefully end our winter season, for march

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 344 comments @Carolyn: I've definitely enjoyed the books I've read by Tracie Peterson.

I nominate Only the River Runs Free by Brock and Bodie Thoene.

Only the River Runs Free (The Galway Chronicles, #1) by Bodie Thoene

message 16: by Olivia (new)

Olivia (olivia_r) | 64 comments I would like to nominate A Home for My Heart by Anne Mateer if that works. I noticed it was a buddy read a couple years ago, so will it work as a group read?

message 17: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 344 comments @Olivia: It sounds like group read and Buddy Reads are separate. Plus, not everyone participates in each discussion anyways.

message 18: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (creativecountry0407gmailcom) | 344 comments @Staci: That's a good choice! I am also curious about their Jerusalem Chronicles series also sounds intriguing.

Thanks Natalie! I haven't read their Jerusalem Chronicles either.

Yes! I think it's okay to do so because the group read is done by vote, and of course, buddy reads are by member choice as well. :)

Great :))

Marion | 124 comments I'm not nominating but just a comment to Staci and Natalie. I recently added the Thoene's Jerusalem Chronicles to my TBR list and plan to read them this summer.

Staci | 2512 comments Mod
Thanks for sharing that Marion. I've enjoyed several books by the authors.

Kalena (bookt2) | 135 comments Andrea wrote: "I nominate The Irish Healer. It will fit into the monthly challenge for March as well."

If it does not get selected, I would be interested in a Buddy read with you. This is on my TBR for this year. :)

message 28: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 3917 comments Mod
Sounds great, Kalena. Would March still work for you? I think it would fit in with that month's challenge.

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Mod
Hi, everyone! March's Group Read will be...

The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen
The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen

The Group Buddy Read will be...

The Icecutter's Daughter (Land of Shining Water, #1) by Tracie Peterson
The Icecutter's Daughter by Tracie Peterson

Am I the only one that finds it humorous that both titles have "Daughter" in them, haha!

message 30: by Andrea, Hospitality Coordinator (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 3917 comments Mod
Beth, that is so cool. Maybe everyone had "daughter" on the mind while voting?

I think I have both of those, but I'm not sure yet if I'll have time to get to them in March. I'll try.

message 31: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 910 comments I may pop in a time or two for discussion on The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen . I probably won't get to the other one; Tracie Peterson hasn't been a huge favorite of mine, and I'm still trying to work through physical books I own.

message 32: by Beth, Head Librarian (new)

Beth (bbulow) | 2403 comments Mod
I will be reading and leading the discussion for The Painter's Daughter, but I probably won't get to the buddy read. I do have it on Kindle, but I just don't think I'll have time to squeeze it in.

message 33: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 18 comments I haven't read The Painter's Daughter yet, so this should be fun. Julie Klassen is always a treat.

Yes! It's high time I read it, since I pre-ordered it and still haven't read it! :p

message 36: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Olson (girlsmama) | 694 comments I haven't read The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen either- will try and get to it! The Icecutter's Daughter (Land of Shining Water, #1) by Tracie Peterson looks interesting as well! :) More great choices to satisfy "a Profession" in the title for the "What's in a name?" challenge !

message 37: by Marion (new)

Marion | 124 comments Yay, the two I already have on kindle were both picked!

message 38: by Linda (new)

Linda Buzard-Moffitt (lindamoffitt02) | -5 comments Tracy's Book is Free Right Now and I have it https://www.amazon.com/Icecutters-Dau...
But Julies is too expensive :(

message 39: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 224 comments maybe, I can get my books read in february to start these for march

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

Can someone please explain the difference between the Group Read and the Buddy Read?

message 41: by Cheryl (last edited Feb 02, 2017 06:12PM) (new)

Cheryl Olson (girlsmama) | 694 comments Sure- the group read will be a little more structured with the mod posting discussion questions after a week or so, etc. The Buddy read will be a little more free flowing and anyone can join in, post questions , etc. It just means there isn't a "leader of the discussion" per se.

message 42: by Christine (new)

Christine | 466 comments I'm psyched The Painter's Daughter by Julie Klassen will be read! Looking forward to reading it!
